When we go shopping, it is often easy to decide whatwe'd like to buy and what we want to disregard orleave for another time. Other times there is addedpressure from a salesperson who tries toconvince us to purchase something. If we realizethat the salesperson is actually lying or deceivingus in order to make a sale, then we may say, "I'mnever going to buy that."

This idiom-to NOT buy something-is used not only with physical items that are for sale, butindeed in any situation where we do not trust the words or explanation that we are hearing. Itmeans that we think the story we are hearing is not true. It may be purposely false in order todeceive us or unintentionally untrue because the speaker has mistaken the facts. In any case,it's always best to double check the facts and don't "buy" everything you hear.
