W: Thomas.
M: Oh.Did somebody tell you?
W: No.
M: I can't imagine how you guessed then.
W: Well, you told me he was back from Canada, you know.
M: Oh, did I?
Yes, he got back three days ago.
W: And have you found out what he's been doing over there?
M: He's told me all about it.
W: Come on, then, you tell me.
M: Well, you know he wanted to try an open-air life, but he couldn't decide whether he should be a cowboy or a lumberjack.
W: So what did he do?
M: First of all, he got a job as a cowboy, but he wasn't very good at it.
W: Oh, why not?
M: Well, for one thing, he could never remember which horse was his.
W: That certainly sounds like Thomas.Once he forgot which girl he'd taken to a dance.
M: Anyhow, he wasn't a very good rider, either. The horse could never understand where he wanted to go.
W: Oh, yes. That must have been awkward.
M: Yes, he often got completely lost.
W: So I suppose he began to wonder if he'd better be a lumberjack instead?
M: Yes, that's right.
W: Was he any more successful?
M: Well, not really. You see he kept forgetting how dangerous the work was.
W: So what happened?
M: He cut down a large tree and didn't realise which way it would fall.
W: Oh dear. Was he badly hurt?
M: Only a broken leg.But while he was in hospital he made up his mind what he really wanted to do.
W: Oh, good.What is it?
M: He decided to come back to England and get married next month.
