At the sight, several men dropped their sticks and tried to run.

看到這個(gè)情形，幾個(gè)人扔掉棍子就要跑。

Panic overtook them, and the next moment all the animals together were chasing them round and round the yard.

他們被驚恐籠罩著，接著，就在所有動(dòng)物的追逐下繞著院子到處亂跑。

They were gored, kicked, bitten, trampled on.

他們不是被抵，就是被踢;不是被咬，就是被踩。

There was not an animal on the farm that did not take vengeance on them after his own fashion.

莊園里的動(dòng)物無不以各自不同的方式向他們復(fù)仇。

Even the cat suddenly leapt off a roof onto a cowman's shoulders and sank her claws in his neck, at which he yelled horribly.

就連那只貓也突然從房頂跳到一個(gè)放牛人的肩上，用爪子掐進(jìn)他的脖子里，疼得他大喊大叫。

At a moment when the opening was clear, the men were glad enough to rush out of the yard and make a bolt for the main road.

趁著門口沒有擋道的機(jī)會(huì)，這伙人喜出望外，奪路沖出院子，迅速逃到大路上。

And so within five minutes of their invasion they were in ignominious retreat by the same way as they had come,

就這樣，他們這次侵襲，在五分鐘之內(nèi)，又從進(jìn)來的路上灰溜溜地?cái)√恿恕?/p>

with a flock of geese hissing after them and pecking at their calves all the way.

一路上又有鵝在啄著他們的腿肚子，噓噓的轟趕他們。

All the men were gone except one.

除了一個(gè)人之外，這幫人全都跑了。

Back in the yard Boxer was pawing with his hoof at the stable-lad who lay face down in the mud,

回到院子里，鮑克瑟用蹄子扒拉一下那個(gè)臉朝下趴在地上的馬夫，

trying to turn him over. The boy did not stir.

試圖把它翻過來，這家伙一動(dòng)也不動(dòng)。

"He is dead," said Boxer sorrowfully.

“他死了”，鮑克瑟難過地說。

"I had no intention of doing that.

“我本不想這樣干。

I forgot that I was wearing iron shoes.

我忘了我還釘著鐵掌呢。

Who will believe that I did not do this on purpose?"

誰相信我這是無意的呢?”

"No sentimentality, comrade!" cried Snowball from whose wounds the blood was still dripping.

“不要多愁善感，同志!”傷口還在滴滴答答流血的斯諾鮑大聲說到。

"War is war. The only good human being is a dead one."

“打仗就是打仗，只有死人才是好人。”

"I have no wish to take life, not even human life," repeated Boxer, and his eyes were full of tears.

“我不想殺生，即使對人也不”，鮑克瑟重復(fù)道，兩眼還含著淚花。

"Where is Mollie?" exclaimed somebody.

不知是誰大聲喊道：“莫麗哪兒去了?”

Mollie in fact was missing.

莫麗確實(shí)失蹤了。

For a moment there was great alarm; it was feared that the men might have harmed her in some way, or even carried her off with them.

大家感到一陣驚慌，他們擔(dān)心人設(shè)了什么計(jì)傷害了她，更擔(dān)心人把她搶走了。

In the end, however, she was found hiding in her stall with her head buried among the hay in the manger.

結(jié)果，卻發(fā)現(xiàn)她正躲在她的廄棚里，頭還鉆在料槽的草中。

She had taken to flight as soon as the gun went off.

她在槍響的時(shí)候就逃跑了。

And when the others came back from looking for her, it was to find that the stable-lad, who in fact was only stunned, had already recovered and made off.

后來又發(fā)現(xiàn)，那個(gè)馬夫只不過昏了過去，就在他們尋找莫麗時(shí)，馬夫蘇醒過來，趁機(jī)溜掉了。
