Then, suddenly raising his voice, "Ladies and gentlemen," he trumpeted, "ladies andgentlemen."

隨即提高了嗓門(mén)，“女士們，先生們，”他的聲音像喇叭，“女士們，先生們。”

The singing of the girls over their test-tubes, the preoccupied whistling of the Microscopists,suddenly ceased.

姑娘們對(duì)著試管上空唱的歌和顯微鏡工。已不在焉的口哨全部突然停止。

There was a profound silence; every one looked round.

一片深沉的寂靜。大家都四面望著。
