胡敏讀故事記托福詞匯第202期:Al and Myrtle 艾爾和默特爾

Al and Myrtle are husband and wife. Their relationship is sometimes in a slump. Al comes home from work and Myrtle catches him at the door.

艾爾和默特爾是夫妻。他們的關(guān)系有時(shí)會(huì)陷入低谷。艾爾下班回家，默特爾把他攔在門(mén)口。

"Hi, honey. I'm home," says Al.

“嘿，親愛(ài)的。我回家了，”艾爾說(shuō)道。

"Take off your shoes, you slovenly sloth," barks Myrtle.

“脫鞋，你這邋遢的懶蟲(chóng)，”默特爾吼道。

"Sweetie pie, you know I was thinking of you all day at my job putting up advertising slogans in the slum."

“我的甜妞！你知道我整天在貧民窟張貼廣告標(biāo)語(yǔ)的時(shí)候都在想著你。”

"Slogans in the slum! What kind of slothful job is that? You probably just spend all day slandering people. You're a good for nothing slimy slug. Here I am at home all day doing housework for you: slicing vegetables for dinner, taking care of Al Junior, mopping the floor. And you're out goofing around in the slums. By the way, be careful. The floor's slippery. Don't slip."

“貧民窟的廣告標(biāo)語(yǔ)！這是什么懶散的差事兒？可能你整天都在說(shuō)別人的壞話(huà)。你這個(gè)沒(méi)有出息的骯臟懶漢。我整天在家給你干家務(wù)：切菜做飯，照管小艾爾，拖地板。而你卻在外邊貧民窟里四處閑蕩。順便說(shuō)一句，要小心。地板滑。不要摔倒。”

"Oh Myrtle. You know when I come home and see your beautiful face and your slender figure, I just..."

“哦，默特爾。你知道，當(dāng)我回到家看到你漂亮的臉蛋、苗條的身材，我就……”

"Can it, you sloppy slob. Put on your slippers."

“是嗎，你這個(gè)懶散的笨蛋。穿上拖鞋。”

Al still hasn't put on his slippers, "By the way, where is little Al?"

艾爾仍然沒(méi)有穿拖鞋，“順便問(wèn)一下，小艾爾哪兒去了？”

"He's out in the backyard on the slope playing on the slide. Watch him. Make sure he doesn't fall off."

“他在后院斜坡上玩滑梯。去看著他。別讓他摔著。”

Al goes into the backyard where Al Junior, 4, is on the slide. Al is stuck at the top because the slide is not sloping enough. It's too sluggish. So Al gives it a slight slant and Al Junior starts to slide, but he falls off and begins to cry, so he takes Al Junior inside.

艾爾來(lái)到后院，四歲的小艾爾正在玩滑梯。因?yàn)榛萜露炔粔?，小艾爾卡在了頂端。坡度太緩了。因此艾爾給滑梯增加了一點(diǎn)斜度，小艾爾開(kāi)始下滑，但他摔倒在地，開(kāi)始哭起來(lái)，艾爾把他帶進(jìn)房里。

Al Junior is not hurt, but he is crying and there is a little slime coming from his nose. When Myrtle sees this, she explodes. "You idiot! I'm going to kill you!" She tries to slap him, but he ducks, so she gets the kitchen knife and begins to slash. Al runs out the front door. It's OK. He'll be back before it's slumber time.

小艾爾并沒(méi)有受傷，可是哭個(gè)不停，有少許黏液從鼻子里流出。默特爾看到了，她大吼道：“你這個(gè)白癡！我宰了你！”她試圖摑他，但他躲開(kāi)了，因此她拿起菜刀，開(kāi)始亂砍。艾爾跑出前門(mén)。事情平緩了下來(lái)。他在睡覺(jué)前會(huì)回來(lái)的。
