There was a young theater student who was barely scraping by working as a waitress in restaurants. She had applied for many scholarships but was denied every time. She had great hopes of becoming a great actress playing on the big screen, but at the time she could scarcely make a living, she had to scratch and scrape for every scrap of food that she had. She was like a scavenger. She also had scholarly ambitions, but her hopes were scattered by failure after failure. She had scoured the papers for auditions day after day and scrambled to go to every audition. Eventually, she developed a scheme of finding out the schedules of talent scouts who were scouring for talented actresses, hoping to score with one of them.

有個年輕的戲劇學院學生靠在餐館當服務員勉強維持生活。她多次申請獎學金，但每次都被否決了。她的偉大理想是當一個出現在大屏幕上的大明星，但當時她幾乎沒有辦法維持生活——她不得不東抓一把、西摳一點來拼湊自己吃的每一塊食物。這讓她活得簡直就像一個食腐動物。她也有學術野心，但一次又一次的失敗打散了她的希望，破滅了她的夢想。她日復一日地搜尋試演資料，匆忙奔波于一次又一次的試演中。最后，她終于制定了一個方案，探聽到了那些專門尋找天才女演員的星探們的時間計劃表，希望能得到某一位星探的好評價。

She went to one of those auditions, and it was a stage production of Gone with the Wind. She was auditioning for the part of Scarlett. She was asked to play a summer scene in which there was scorching heat. Standing back stage, she wasn’t scared. She had studied the script and realized the scope of her role. She had prepared her parasol and fan as the script designated. The scenery was lush, as expected for summer. When the actor who played Ashley entered the stage, he was a gentleman and carried the scent of a scholar. The actors acted so well, especially the young woman, and the stage was so scenic that the talent scout felt he had a real scoop in getting this actress. Finally, the talent scout invited the young theater student to be an actress in an upcoming Hollywood movie.

她參加了一個試演，這次試演是把電影《亂世佳人》搬上舞臺，她試演斯嘉麗的角色。場景選定在夏天，天氣炙熱無比。她鎮(zhèn)定自若地站在布景前，毫無受到驚嚇的樣子。在此之前，她也已經仔細研讀過劇本，非常清楚自己的角色范圍。另外，她還預備好了劇本中要求的陽傘和扇子作為道具。由于是夏天，所以風景很迷人，草木繁茂。扮演阿希禮的男演員走上了舞臺。阿希禮是一個紳士，身上帶有一種濃濃的學者氣質。演員們的演出都非常精彩，女演員尤其出色，同時舞臺布景也風景如畫。這一切都讓星探感覺到自己已經挖掘到了真正合適的女演員。最后，星探邀請那位年輕的戲劇掌院的學生在即將開拍的一部好萊塢影片中擔任女演員。
