樂(lè)觀的生活態(tài)度

As a child, Tom was very much oriented towards botanical studies.

還在孩提時(shí)代，湯姆就對(duì)植物研究情有獨(dú)鐘，并在那時(shí)確定了以后學(xué)習(xí)研究的方向—植物學(xué)。

Anything organic, and particularly plant life, was of enormous interest to him, from the smallest to the largest organisms.

任何有機(jī)生物，從最小的到最大的有機(jī)物，尤其是植物，對(duì)他來(lái)說(shuō)都具有莫大的吸引力。

When he was not frolicking in his grandparents' orchard, he would go out into the woods, looking for wild orchids.

This curiosity never quite left him, even though he changed his orientation when he entered university.

He opted foe a major in oriental studies, of all things, while choosing film-making as his optional subject.

In his free time, he played the trumpet in the university orchestra.

業(yè)余時(shí)間，他還在學(xué)校管弦樂(lè)隊(duì)里吹小號(hào)。

Tom always had an optimistic outlook on life.

湯姆的生活態(tài)度總是非常樂(lè)觀的。

Depression, to Tom, was definitely not an option.

對(duì)他來(lái)說(shuō)，沮喪消沉絕不是最佳選擇。

While others would consult an oracle from time to time, in order to learn what they could do about their future, this was not Tom's at all.

其他人都時(shí)不時(shí)地去請(qǐng)教先知，想知道他們的未來(lái)究竟會(huì)怎樣，可湯姆卻從來(lái)不這樣做。

His studies, combined with his extramural activities, gradually brought him into quite a different social orbit from the one he grew up in, which led to quite an enrichment of his life experience.

他的學(xué)習(xí)和研究，以及他的各種各樣的校外活動(dòng)逐漸把他帶到了一個(gè)與其從小成長(zhǎng)的道路完全不同的社會(huì)軌道，大大豐富了他的生活閱歷。

Unlike many of his classmates who struggled to keep up with the program of studies, university was no ordeal to Tom at all.

和其他在學(xué)業(yè)上苦苦掙扎以求能跟上學(xué)習(xí)計(jì)劃的同學(xué)不一樣，大學(xué)的功課對(duì)湯姆來(lái)說(shuō)根本算不上是什么嚴(yán)峻考驗(yàn)。

He felt in no way restricted by the increasing number of ordinances that were being issued by various authorities, either.

另外，日益增加的各種官方法令條例對(duì)湯姆來(lái)說(shuō)也不構(gòu)成對(duì)他的限制。

Rather, he felt as though, his oral prowess increased by leaps and bounds during his time at university, as a result of which he was asked to give the oration on graduation.

更確切地說(shuō)，他總是覺(jué)得自己好像挖掘到了某種珍貴的礦石，甚至就是鉆石。其他暫且不提，大學(xué)期間湯姆的口頭表達(dá)能力突飛猛進(jìn)，所以畢業(yè)典禮上他被邀請(qǐng)上臺(tái)演講。

To tell you the truth, he was exhilarated, almost as if he was orbiting the earth. And that was what he had always wanted: an orbital experience!

說(shuō)實(shí)話，湯姆真足興奮莫名，那種感覺(jué)就好像正在繞地球軌道而行。這正是他夢(mèng)寐以求的：一次繞軌道而行的體驗(yàn)！
