Unit 42
Researchers at the University of Illinois investigated the response of a group of college men and women to a large milk shake before a meal. Half of the students were on a diet, while the other half were not. All were given a large milk shake before a meal. Non-dieters ate smaller meals following the milk shake.
Dieters, however, ate more ice cream after the milk shake, demonstrating what weightloss experts call the"counter-regulation" effect,a psychological tendency to overeat after having eaten something not allowed on one’s diet-"I blew it, so I may as well give up.”Non-dieters pay more attention to their level of satiety, or fullness. Avoid eating the wrong foods in the first place.
