第二十三章 省略句 復合句中的省略及練習題

　　1 .許多狀語從句可以有詞省略，特別是在when , while , though , if , as if ( though ) ，等后面，省略的詞多為它的主語和動詞be :

　　Look out for cars when crossing the street .

　　過街時注意車輛。

　　She talked while preparing their supper .

　　她一面做飯一面談著。

　　Though not large , the room was light and airy .

　　房間雖不大，卻很亮堂，粗氣清新。

　　If necessary , I'll have the letter duplicated .

　　如果必要我將把信復印一份。

　　She hurriedly left the room as if ( though ) angry ?

　　她匆匆離開了房間，好像生氣了的樣子。

　　This viewpoint , however understandable , is wrong .

　　這種觀點，不管多么可以理解，都是錯誤的。

　　Whenever known , such facts should be reported .

　　這類情況一旦發(fā)現(xiàn)，就應(yīng)當報告。

　　Fill in the blanks with articles where ( ever ) necessary .

　　在簌格中填入必要的冠詞。

　　2 .在比較從句中，幾乎經(jīng)常會有字詞省略：

　　Many Others are doing better than we are .

　　有很多人比我們干得好。

　　They were heavier than he had expected ，

　　它們比他預料的重。

　　Water was important to us as oxygen .

　　水對我們像氧氣一樣重要。

　　Working hard as usual , I expect .

　　還是和平時那樣勤奮，我想。

　　3 .復合句中還有些其他成分可以省略：

　　Anything you want to take with you ?

　　有什么東西要帶嗎?

　　Sorry , the line is busy .

　　對不起，占線了。

　　Hope you'll like it .

　　希望你會喜歡。

　　We'll certainly help you if we can .

　　要是可能我們一定會幫助你。

　　I won't disturb you again unless I have to .

　　除非不得己我將不再來打擾你。

　　The sooner , the better .

　　越快越好。
