第十四章 介詞 before 和behind 的用法

　　1. before:

　　l)在……前面：

　　We have a good day's work before us.

　　我們還有一整天的工作要做。

　　He wanted to show off before her.

　　他想在她面前賣弄一下。

　　Pride comes before a fall.

　　驕傲就會摔交。(諺)

　　2)在……之前：

　　The darkest hour is before the dawn.

　　最黑暗的時刻過了就是黎明。(諺)

　　Before starting the work, they had a good discussion.

　　工作開始之前他們好好討論了一次。

　　That happens in 400 B. C.(before Christ).

　　這是公元前400 年發(fā)生的。

　　3)用于某些成語：

　　Before long，their work began to show results.

　　不久他們的工作見成效了。

　　We got there before time.

　　我們提前到達(dá)那里。

　　They arrived the day before yesterday.

　　們是前天到的。

　　2. behind:

　　l)在……后面：

　　She stands behind the counter all day.

　　她整天站(在)柜臺(后面)。

　　The garage is behind the house.

　　車庫在房子后面。

　　There is an orchard behind the school.

　　學(xué)校后面有一座果園。

　　2)比……晚：

　　The train is behind time.

　　火車晚點了。

　　You are an hour behind your appointed time.

　　你比約定的時間晚了一個鐘頭。

　　Father was behind time.

　　爸爸來晚了。

　　3)用于某些成語：

　　Don't talk behind people's backs.

　　不要在背后議論人。

　　He has been behind the scenes.

　　他一直在幕后操縱。

　　Sorry, but we're behind the schedule.
