Hi! Welcome to class today. We have some funslangs for you today

歡迎來到今天的課程。我們今天有些有意思的俚語

Both of them involve the word "bounce". Butsometimes you don't use it literally

這兩個俚語里面都有bounce這個詞。但是有的時候不能按照它的書面意思去理解

Bounce can mean to leave a place. So it's kind of likeyou went somewhere and you are bouncing back. Soyou are bouncing out

Bounce也有離開一個地方的意思。就像你去了一個地方，然后彈回來了。

So if you are at a party, and if a friend asks you to leave. They are not ask you to bounce withthem like this

如果你在一個聚會上，一個朋友想讓你離開，他們說的bounce不是蹦，而是離開。

They are asking you to leave the party. So someone might say

他們可以跟你說

"Hey, I'm getting tired, do you want to bounce?" Something like that

我有些累了，你想走了嗎?

And another slang that uses the word "bounce" is to bounce back

另外一個有bounce這個單詞的俚語是bounce back，受到挫折后恢復(fù)原狀

After something goes wrong, you can bounce back and not be sad or down for a long time

在受到了挫折之后，你可以選擇恢復(fù)原狀或者沮喪很長時間

Because when you become sad, you can say you become down

當(dāng)你難過的時候，你可以說你很沮喪

If you return to how you were, it's like bouncing, sad, not sad

當(dāng)恢復(fù)原狀的時候，就像反彈到了之前的狀態(tài)

For example, if you are really hoping to get a job and you just found out you didn't get it

例如你沒有得到一個自己特別想要的工作

You can either stay down and be sad, cry, hide in your bed

你可以一直沮喪，哭泣，躲在床上

or you can bounce back and keep looking for jobs

keep talking to your friends, keep smiling, and get your life back to normal

For my friend Mark, when his dog died, he was sad for about a week

then he bounced back and started doing his homework again and going to classes and doingeverything he normally would

So that's our slang. Bounce, to leave a place. Bounce back, get back to normal

Our sentence structure for today is "Whether or not A happens, B will C"

我們今天的句型是不管A是否發(fā)生，B都會C

I know it's good to get to practice with the word "whether" because it's kind of tricky to figureout how it's used

練習(xí)whether這個詞是很好的 因?yàn)樗氖褂梅绞奖容^巧妙

For example, "Whether or not there's homework tonight, we should meet and study fortomorrow's test"

例如 不管今天晚上是否有作業(yè)，我們都應(yīng)該一起準(zhǔn)備明天的考試

Doesn't matter if there's homework, we should still study

不管有沒有作業(yè)，我們都要學(xué)習(xí)

Another example is "Whether or not I find my dog, I will never speak to Peter again"

另外一個例子是 不管我是否找到我的狗，我都不會再和彼得說話了

And our etymology for today is the Latin root "inter"

我們今天的詞源是拉丁語inter

It means between, among, together

它的意思是在兩者之間，一起

So it can either mean two things working together, or it can talk about something between twoother things

它的含義可以是兩者一起合作，或者一個在兩者之間的事物

Like intermediate. An intermediate thing is something that comes between two categories

例如intermediate(中級的) 一個中級的事物是在兩個類別之間的

You might see it while you are playing a game, there's easy, there's hard, and there'sintermediate

You can also have non-spicy food, spicy food, and an intermediate. So something that comes inbetween two categories

And of course you know the word "interact". It's when you have communication between twogroups

你也應(yīng)該知道interact(互動)這個詞。他的意思是兩個團(tuán)體之間的溝通

For example, a cat and a dog can communicate, two classes at your school can communicate

例如一只貓和一只狗可以溝通，學(xué)校里的兩個班也可以溝通

Or you can communicate with your favorite English teacher on Weibo

或者你也可以和你最喜歡的英語老師在微博上溝通

An "internship" is something else that comes between two things

一個internship(實(shí)習(xí))也是介于兩者之間的

It can be a job that you have for a short time. Usually an internship is between school and moreschool

一般實(shí)習(xí)是一個短期的工作，它是介于兩個學(xué)期之間的

So for example during a summer break, or it can be between school and work

例如暑假實(shí)習(xí)，實(shí)習(xí)也可以是介于學(xué)業(yè)和工作之間的

So if you just graduated and you want to have a short job before you go and take a long-termjob, then you can take an internship

如果你剛畢業(yè)，想在有一個長期工作之前有一個短期的工作，你可以去找一個實(shí)習(xí)

And if you are trying to be the person in between some group that is arguing with anothergroup

如果你是一個介于兩個相互爭議的團(tuán)體之間的人

you are interceding; you are fixing a problem by getting between them

And if you intercede for someone, you just did an intercession

如果你在調(diào)解，你所做的事叫做intercession

An intercession is the noun form of intercede. Intercede, of course, is the verb

Intercession是名詞，intercede是動詞

And if you are stopping a message as it travels from point A to point B, you are intercepting it

You can do the same thing with balls during sports or stopping a ninja on his way to killsomeone. You just intercepted him
