So the first section of today’s class is called HelloSlang

今天課程的第一部分是“你好俚語”

and the slang for today is “sketch”, which is also used as “sketchy”

今天的俚語是“Sketch”，或者也可以說“Sketchy”

它們的意思就是不靠譜

它們怎么會有這個意思

Sketch本來就是畫畫的意思，做出來一個草圖

Calling something sketch is saying that it was done very quickly, it’s not

complete

說一件事是Sketch是指這件事做得非常倉促，沒有完成

So as a slang, it means something is not working, or doesn’t look very good.

所以用作俚語時(shí)，它的意思是不工作，或者看起來很不行

Like you know也可以說不靠譜

Let’s try using them in a sentence

讓我們試試在一個句子中用一下這個俚語

For example, if I’m on the computer

舉個例子，如果我在用電腦

在電腦上面，查查一個東西，找一個網(wǎng)站

然后那個網(wǎng)站(有)不靠譜的感覺

If that website doesn’t feel quite right

You can say whoa, that website looks sketch

你可以說，哇，這網(wǎng)站看起來真不靠譜

Today we are going to talk about William Randolph Hearst

Mr. Hearst built what was once the nation's largest newspaper business

He bought newspapers in different parts of the United States

And he spent millions of dollars to gain readers in sometimes very shocking

ways

And in the end, he was a very successful businessman

and changed American newspapers forever

His father was rich for developing mines

And he had everything he wanted as a child

But he was also a little rebellious

He was expelled from Harvard university for playing a joke on the professor

Yellow journalism is when you exaggerate a story
