CNN News:臺(tái)風(fēng)“黑格比”席卷菲律賓 紐約市街區(qū)上演街頭抗議

Our first story takes you to the Pacific Island nation of Philippines. People there are bracing for super-typhoon Hagupit. The word means "lush" in Philippino (sic). Forecasters aren`t sure where exactly it`ll go. Something it will make a right turn and move north along the eastern Philippines. Other think, it will hit the city of Tacloban over the weekend. We`ve mentioned that place before. When super typhoon Haiyan hit Tacloban last year, it killed 6,000 people and wiped out entire neighborhoods. Evacuations have started ahead of Hagupit. It has sustained winds of 178 miles per hour, it`s the equivalent of a category five hurricane.

今天我們的首條新聞將要去菲律賓這個(gè)太平洋島國(guó)。哪里的人們正在遭受超級(jí)臺(tái)風(fēng)黑格比的襲擊。“黑格比”一詞在菲律賓語(yǔ)言中有“茂盛”的意思。天氣預(yù)報(bào)目前不能確定臺(tái)風(fēng)走向。預(yù)測(cè)今晚可能改變走向向右轉(zhuǎn)移，并且將沿著菲律賓東部沿岸一路向北。還有一種觀點(diǎn)是黑格比將會(huì)在周末襲擊塔克洛班城市。之前我們提到過(guò)那個(gè)地方，去年的時(shí)候超級(jí)臺(tái)風(fēng)海燕襲擊了那里，造成了6000人死亡，幾乎摧毀了整個(gè)社區(qū)。在黑格比登陸之前民眾已經(jīng)開始了撤離。黑格比超級(jí)臺(tái)風(fēng)每小時(shí)可達(dá)178英里風(fēng)速，相當(dāng)于五級(jí)颶風(fēng)的威力。

Unrest in New York, it`s in response to events involving 43-year old Eric Garner. This summer police say he resisted arrest for illegally selling cigarettes. He`d been arrested for that before. Officer Daniel Pantaleo put Garner in a chokehold, as others helped arrest him. Garner repeatedly said he couldn`t breathe, he died later on the way to the hospital. Police union officials said Garner`s poor health caused his death, but a medical examiner ruled that Officer Pantaleo`s chokehold contributed to it.

This came down to a grand jury. It had to decide whether the officer knew there was a substantial risk that Garner would die from the chokehold. It decided not to charge Officer Pantaleo. And the protest heated up with demonstrators saying Pantaleo used excessive force.

這一事得到大陪審團(tuán)的判決，其必須對(duì)警員勒索加納頸部的行為是否造成加納最終死亡原因一事作出判決。然而其決定不對(duì)警員Pantaleo進(jìn)行起訴。隨后這一判決引起了紐約市民的暴動(dòng)，稱Pantaleo過(guò)度使用暴力。
