And triathlons are tough. They start when you jump in the water. They don`t stop until you cross the finish line on foot. The athletes who compete in these things push through pain and exhaustion in a race against the clock.

三項(xiàng)全能運(yùn)動(dòng)是殘酷的。這項(xiàng)運(yùn)動(dòng)以游泳開始，整個(gè)比賽過程直到雙腳到達(dá)終點(diǎn)線才可以停止。在與時(shí)鐘做抗?fàn)幍倪^程中，運(yùn)動(dòng)員付出了難以想象的痛苦和精力。

Scout Bassett competes at the world championship level, and as Dr. Sanjay Gupta shows us, she has plenty of experience persevering through challenges.

Scout lost her leg when she was just a baby. It was the beginning of a difficult childhood.

Scout在她小的時(shí)候就是去了另一條腿。那也只是噩夢般童年的開始。

I was burned in a fire in China And when I turned one year old,

我在一歲多的時(shí)候在中國遇到火災(zāi)被燒傷。

I was placed on the streets in front of the government orphanage.

我被安置在政府孤兒院前的街道上。

When I came here to the U.S., I was seven years old and weighed 22 pounds.

我來美國的時(shí)候是7歲，只有22磅重。

Scout had never left her orphanage before being adopted. Overnight, she found herself with a new family, in a new country, surrounded by strangers, and unable to speak any English.

Scout直到她被收養(yǎng)一直沒有離開過孤兒院。突然間她發(fā)現(xiàn)她有了一個(gè)新的家庭，在一個(gè)全新的地方，周圍都是陌生人，她還可以說英語了。

Everybody`s just looking at you, wanting to know what`s going on, who you are, where you come from. And I mean, I was like, I`m not even sure what`s happening to me. How am I supposed to explain that to you?

Exercise became a refuge. She saw other par athletes race a triathlon with the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

訓(xùn)練對她來說是一種寄托。她看到其他像她一樣的運(yùn)動(dòng)員在運(yùn)動(dòng)員挑戰(zhàn)基地參加鐵人三項(xiàng)運(yùn)動(dòng)的比賽。

Being able to see that was something that changed my life forever, seeing what was possible out there.

我看到了可以改變我一生的希望，看到了可能。

She started to race triathlons herself, swimming without any artificial leg because it would weigh her down. Switching into a leg with a foot, made into a bike cleat, and then switching again to an artificial running leg for the end of the race.

她開始自己訓(xùn)練三項(xiàng)全能運(yùn)動(dòng)，甚至在沒有義肢的幫助下游泳，因?yàn)槟菚?huì)增加重量，使她下沉。由腿轉(zhuǎn)換成腳，再到自行車，再轉(zhuǎn)換成腿跑完最后的比賽。

Race by race, training day by training day, I started to gain this confidence that I really had lacked for much of my life, and became just this person who really believed in myself for the first time.

一場接一場的比賽，周而復(fù)始的訓(xùn)練讓我重新獲得了失去已久的自信，第一次可以肯定自己的價(jià)值。

And she has no plans of slowing down.

對此她表示會(huì)繼續(xù)堅(jiān)持下去。
