[00:00.16]Thank you, President Cowan, Mrs. President Cowen; distinguished guests, 尊敬的考恩校長，校長夫人，尊敬的嘉賓—— [00:05.46]undistinguished guests—you know who you are, honored faculty and creepy Spanish teacher 你們知道自己是誰，不用介紹了，尊敬的老師們，還有令人害怕的西班牙語老師，感謝你們！ [00:10.52]And thank you to all the graduating class of 2009, 尊敬的所有杜蘭大學(xué)2009屆畢業(yè)生們！ [00:17.14]I realize most of you are hungover and have splitting headaches and haven't slept since Fat Tuesday, 我知道你們絕大多數(shù)人還因為宿醉而頭痛欲裂，狂歡到今天都還沒有睡覺。 [00:21.48]but you can't graduate till I finish, so listen up. 但沒聽完我演講不能畢業(yè)，所以要注意聽了。 [00:27.21]When I was asked to make the commencement speech, I immediately said yes. 當(dāng)我應(yīng)邀來發(fā)表畢業(yè)演講時，我毫不猶豫就答應(yīng)了， [00:31.40]Then I went to look up what commencement meant. 然后我才去查畢業(yè)典禮是什么意思。 [00:36.08]Which would have been easy if I had a dictionary, but most of the books in our house are Portia's, and they're all written in Australian. 如果我有字典的話就輕松多了，但我家大多數(shù)的書都是波西米亞的，而且都是澳式英語， [00:44.19]So I had to break the word down myself, to find out the meaning. 所以我得自己拆分單詞，摸索它的意思。 [00:50.24]Commencement: common, and cement. Common cement. You commonly see cement on sidewalks. commencement 由 commen 和 cement 構(gòu)成，意思是“常見的水泥”。 [01:00.51]Sidewalks have cracks, and if you step on a crack, you break your mother's back. 在人行道上你?？匆娝唷Ｈ诵械郎嫌辛芽p，你踩到了裂縫，撞傷了你媽媽的背。 [01:06.00]So there's that. But I'm honored that you've asked me here to speak at your common cement. 意思就是這樣。但是我很榮幸應(yīng)邀給你們做“常見的水泥”演講。 [01:16.22]I thought that you had to be a famous alumnus—alumini—aluminum—alumis—you had to graduate from this school. 我本以為要夠有名，必須要是校友才能來。 [01:22.28]And I didn't go to college here, and I don't know if President Cowan knows, I didn't go to any college at all. 我沒在這兒上過大學(xué)，而且，不知道考恩校長知道不知道，我完全沒念過大學(xué)。 [01:30.21]Any college. And I'm not saying you wasted your time, or money, but look at me, I"m a huge celebrity. 任何一所大學(xué)。我不是說你們在浪費時間和金錢，看看我，我可是超越成功的名人。
