他是個(gè)名副其實(shí)的老古董。
a stick-in-the-mud字面意思是：“插在爛泥中的樹枝”，樹枝在爛泥中沒有任何松動(dòng)的余地，以此來比喻：“刻板單調(diào)、墨守成規(guī)的老古板”。因此，當(dāng)美國人說"He is totally a stick-in-the-mud."時(shí)，他/她要表達(dá)的意思就是:"He is really an old-fashioned fossil."、"He is very dull and conservative."、"He isan old fuddy-duddy."。
