　　他面試時(shí)遲到了，一開(kāi)始就給人留下了不好的印象。

　　get off on the wrong foot 直譯過(guò)來(lái)就是“動(dòng)身的時(shí)候邁錯(cuò)了腳”，這個(gè)短語(yǔ)的真正意思是：“一開(kāi)始就給人留下了不好的印象，出師不利”。因此當(dāng)美國(guó)人說(shuō)"He gets off on thewrong foot by being late on the intervies."時(shí)，他要表達(dá)的意思就是："He leaves a bad impression by beinglate on the interview."、"He disappointes us at thefirst sight by being late on the interview"、"The firstimpression he gives us is poor, for he is late in the interview."。
