[名詞用法]名詞 fruit 的可數(shù)性問(wèn)題

　　1. 用作物質(zhì)名詞，泛指一般意義的水果，不可數(shù)。如：

　　Fruit is cheapest in season. 水果在上市季節(jié)最便宜。

　　Fruit quickly goes rotten in hot weather. 天熱水果很快會(huì)腐爛。

　　Eat more fruit—it will do you good. 多吃水果，這對(duì)你有好處。

　　2. 若表示水果的種類，則為可數(shù)名詞。如：

　　The mango is a tropical fruit. 芒果是種熱帶水果。

　　The potato is a vegetable, not a fruit. 土豆是一種蔬菜，不是水果。

　　對(duì)于fruit是否含有“種類”之意，有時(shí)需要看具體的語(yǔ)境。比較：

　　I bought some fruit on my way home. 我在回家路上買了一些水果。

　　Some fruits don’t freeze well at all. 有些(種類的)水果根本不能冷藏。

　　在某些語(yǔ)境不很明確的情況下，用作可數(shù)或不可數(shù)名詞均有可能。如：

　　We import tropical fruit(s). 我們進(jìn)口熱帶水果。

　　但是，下面一句中的fruits不宜改為fruit，因?yàn)槠淝暗男揎椪Z(yǔ)many和different明顯是在強(qiáng)調(diào)種類：

　　We import many different tropical fruits. 我們進(jìn)口許多不同的熱帶水果。

　　當(dāng)用于fruit and vegetables(水果和蔬菜)時(shí)，fruit通常用單數(shù)(不可數(shù))，而vegetables通常用復(fù)數(shù)。如：

　　Fruit and vegetables are sold by weight. 水果和蔬菜按重量賣。

　　Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. 要吃大量的新鮮水果和蔬菜。

　　但有時(shí)(尤其是在美國(guó)英語(yǔ)中)也可見(jiàn)到fruits and vegetables這樣的用法。如：

　　The farmer drove to the city each week to sell his fruits and vegetables. 這位農(nóng)民每周開車到城里來(lái)賣水果和蔬菜。

　　Her health improved when she began eating fruits and vegetables. 她開始吃水果和蔬菜后身體更健康了。

　　不過(guò)，如果是用于名詞前作定語(yǔ)，則fruit和vegetable均要用單數(shù)。如：

　　He runs a fruit and vegetable stall in the market. 他在集市里經(jīng)營(yíng)一家水果蔬菜攤。

　　3. 雖然在強(qiáng)調(diào)種類時(shí)fruit可用作可數(shù)名詞，但與表示種類的kind of, type of, sort of等搭配時(shí)，fruit通常是不可數(shù)的，因?yàn)槠浞N類意味已經(jīng)體現(xiàn)在kind, type, sort等詞上面。如：

　　I like all kinds of fruit, especially apples. 各種各樣水果我都喜歡，特別是蘋果。

　　Apple, pears, and oranges are some common types of fruit. 蘋果、梨和橘子是一些常見(jiàn)的水果種類。

　　The global economy means that all types of fruit and vegetables are available throughout the year. 全球化的經(jīng)濟(jì)意味著全年都可以買到各種水果和蔬菜。
