So part of what your experience was to keep learning, right?

You just kept learning and that has been such an important driver for you

Part of our topic today is about importance of that sensibility for kids

Like what it means to become a lifelong learner

And tell us a little bit about what skills are what you think is most important for kids today as they're looking forward

So, I don't... this is not going to sound humble

and I also think it's true of all of you in this room

I was a really good student, totally, are you guys pretty good students?
我大概是一個(gè)很好的學(xué)生,你們也是好學(xué)生吧?

But what that means is that I was really.. I am really good at sitting in a lecture hall just like this
但我這么說(shuō)的意思是...就像現(xiàn)在,我真的在學(xué)術(shù)報(bào)告廳很坐得住

listening to someone share information, write it down, and then tell it back to someone later

I'm still really good at it and if I were in your seat, I'd really having a good time

I'm having a good time up here, too

But, when I actually went to work with families, builds this the Primary school, build CZI

I didn't have any of that skill set,

No one ever prepared me for that

You know I asked my friends who got MBAs I was like:

-"Did they teach you that?"  -"Yeah"
-“是他們教你這樣做的嗎?”  -“對(duì)啊”

So the core of it is our current systems even if we are wildly successful
所以核心問(wèn)題是,即使我們現(xiàn)有的教育體制十分成功

don't actually prepare students to do what they need to do in the workplace
但它并沒(méi)有教會(huì)學(xué)生們未來(lái)在工作崗位上需要的技能

And what are my hope is that
而我的希望是

we actually think about how we can actually change that,
我們能夠想想,怎樣才能改變這種局面

how we can actually educate our students in a way that prepares them for the real-life workplace

And where I've seen it most successfully in K-12 education

and where I get a lot of my inspiration from

It's actually a school visit that I did to a group called summit public schools
我曾去過(guò)他們一個(gè)叫頂峰公立學(xué)校的教育機(jī)構(gòu)訪學(xué)

I walked in to their small school network in the Bay Area and Washington
我曾去過(guò)他們?cè)谂f金山灣區(qū)和華盛頓的多所學(xué)校

I walked into the school and I didn't recognize where I was
我走進(jìn)學(xué)校的時(shí)候,還以為走錯(cuò)了地方

I saw middle school and high schoolers working in all different types of configurations

There were groups of kids, problem-solving together

and teaching each other about how to solve a problem that a teacher had posed to them

I saw teachers working one-on-one, comes having a mini conference and what a particular kid needed

I saw a kid working by themselves on a project that I didn't even recognize as something that you could do in school

He was building... he was working on a web media project
他在搭建...在處理一個(gè)網(wǎng)頁(yè)媒體項(xiàng)目

And my questions like: what is this? where am I?
我當(dāng)時(shí)就懵了:這是什么?我在哪?

Because this is what I see folks actually doing in the workplace
因?yàn)檫@些都是我在辦公室才能見(jiàn)到人們做的活

Problem solving on their own, applying their what they're learning in a way that's meaningful in the real world
獨(dú)立解決問(wèn)題,在現(xiàn)實(shí)生活中應(yīng)用他們所學(xué)的知識(shí)

And when they don't know how to do something,
當(dāng)他們不知道怎么做某些事時(shí)

they know how to actually ask for help and get the right resources
他們清楚地知道如何請(qǐng)求協(xié)助,并獲得有用的資源

and what I realized in that school visit is that
我從那一次訪學(xué)中意識(shí)到的是

If this group had been able to really turn
如果這群人真的能夠

flip what the classroom looks like historically to what would be preparing kids for success in the future
將課堂的歷史面貌,轉(zhuǎn)變成能為孩子未來(lái)的成功做準(zhǔn)備的樣子

And that's why we've been so proud to be supporting
這就是我們?nèi)绱俗院赖刂С诌@項(xiàng)工作的原因

and sharing their work with even more schools to do what they're...

The average kid with the one-to-one tutor

Average the 50 percentile kid will outperform 98 percent of the kids in the other class

Okay, now I know it is not about the kids

It's about can I actually create the kinds of learning experiences

That let any kid get the kind of benefit that you get when you have a one-on-one tutor
