When I was a young kid, there was a widowed man lived up the street.

我小時候，街上住著一位獨居老人

And he was in his eighties, he was a little scary looking, and I got to know him a little bit...

他大概80歲，看上去兇巴巴的，我認識他

I think he might pay me for cutting mow his lawn or something …

One day he said "come along to my garage, I want to show you something."

And he pulled out his dusty old rock tumbler,

that was a motor and a coffee can and a little band between them,

and he said "come out with me",

we went out to the back, and we got some just rocks,

some regular old ugly rocks, and we put them in the can with a little bit of liquid and a little bit of grits powder,

and we closed the can up and he turned this motor on, and he said, "come back tomorrow".

他蓋好蓋子，開動電機，對我說"明天再來

And this can was making rack of his stones, and I came back the next day,

磨石機開始研磨石頭，第二天我又去了

and we opened the can, and we took out these amazingly beautiful polished rocks,

我們打開罐子，看到了打磨得異常圓潤美麗的石頭

err... the same common stones that go in through rubbing against each other like this,

看上去普普通通的石頭就像這樣互相磨擦著

creating a little bit of friction, creating a little bit of noise, had come out these beautiful polished rocks.

And that's always been in my mind that, my metaphor for a team working really hard on something they're passionate about.

我一直用這件事比喻竭盡全力工作的團隊

It's that through the team, through that group of incredibly talented people bumping up against each other,

正是通過團隊合作，通過這些精英的相互碰撞

having arguments, having fights sometimes, making some noise, and working together they polish each other.

通過辯論、對抗、爭吵、合作，相互打磨

and they polish the ideas, and what comes out are these really beautiful stones.

磨礪彼此的想法，才能創(chuàng)造出美麗的"石頭
