I said to my wife.'Youneedn't be so rude about it,' my wife answered asshe looked at herself in the mirror.I sat down on oneof those modern chairs with holesin it and waited.We had been in the hat shop for half an hour and mywife was still in front of the mirror.‘We mustn't buythings we don't need,' I remarked suddenly. Iregretted saying it almost at once. 'You needn'thave said that,' my wife answered.‘I need notremind you of that terrible tie you boughtyesterday.' "I find it beautiful,"I said. A man can never have too many ties."And awoman can't have too many hats,"she answered. Ten minutes later we walked out of theshop together. My wife was wearing a hat that looked like a lighthouse !

7. 'You needn't have said that,'my wife answered. “I needn't remind you of thatterrible tieyou bought yesterday.”
“你沒必要這樣說，”我妻子回答說，“我也不必提醒你昨天買的那條糟糕透了的領(lǐng)帶。”
語言點 needn’t have done用來表示過去不必要發(fā)生的動作，但是卻發(fā)生了。
I needn't have recited all the passages.
我原本沒有必要背誦所有的段落。
8.“I find it beautiful,” I said. “A man can never have too many ties.”
“我覺得它挺好看，”我說，“男人擁有多少領(lǐng)帶也不會嫌多。”
語言點 cannot…too / over…，can never... too / over…意思是“無論怎么……也不為過分”或是“越……越好”：
I cannot thank my parents too much.
我無論怎么感謝我的父母都不過分。
You can never be too careful when you drive a car.
當(dāng)你開車的時候，你越小心越好。
Drinking water can never be too clean.
飲用水越干凈越好。
9.“And a woman can't have too many hats,” she answered.
“女人有多少帽子也不嫌多，”她回答。
語言點 句型結(jié)構(gòu)與上一句相同。
