I think that young children oftenappreciate modern pictures better than anyoneelse. They notice more.My sister is only seven, but she always tells me whether my pictures aregood or not. She came into my room yesterday.'What are you doing?' she asked.‘I'm hangingthis picture on the wall,' I answered. ‘It's a new one. Do you like it?'She looked at it critically fora moment. 當(dāng)然，有許多畫是什么“意思”也沒有。

語言點(diǎn) about加引號在此表示諷刺，指那些畫實(shí)際上沒有任何意思。

5. They are just pretty patterns.

它們只是些好看的圖案。

語言點(diǎn) 此句中的just相當(dāng)于only的意思，意為“僅僅是”:

6. We like them in the same way that we like pretty curtain material.

我們喜歡它們就像喜歡漂亮的窗簾布一樣。

語言點(diǎn) 此句中that引導(dǎo)方式狀語從句。in the same way that / as意為“就像……，用和……同樣的方式”。例如：Ilove you in the same way that I like New Concept English.我愛你就像我喜歡《新概念英語》一樣。
