Lesson 9 A cold welcome

課文內(nèi)容：

On Wednesday evening, we went to the Town Hall. Itwas the last day of the year and a large crowd ofpeople had gathered under the Town Hall clock. Itwould strike twelve in twenty minutes' time. Fifteenminutes passed and then, at five to twelve, theclock stopped. The big minute hand did notmove. We waited and waited, but nothinghappened. Suddenly someone shouted, It's twominutes past twelve! The clock has stopped!' I looked at my watch. It was true. The big clockrefused to welcome the New Year. At that moment everybody began to laugh and sing.

4.Fifteen minutes passed and then, at five to twelve, the clock stopped.

15分鐘過后，在12點(diǎn)差5分時，鐘停了。

語言點(diǎn)1 時間段+passed and then=時間段+later……(多長時間)過后

語言點(diǎn)2 時間表示法：表示幾點(diǎn)差幾分用to，表示幾點(diǎn)過幾分用past，通常在半小時之內(nèi)：

5:40 twenty to six 5:20 twenty past five

12:16 sixteen past twelve 1:32 twenty-eight to two

語言點(diǎn)3 比較學(xué)習(xí)：pass;past

pass v.通過;n.通行證;及格

past n.過去;adj.過去的;prep.越過

5.The big minute hand did not move.

巨大的分針不走了。

語言點(diǎn) move這里作“移動”講，如：Move away from the window.從窗戶那兒移開。

6.We waited and waited, but nothing happened.

我們等啊等啊，但情況依然沒有變化。

語言點(diǎn)1 用and連接兩個重復(fù)的動詞，表強(qiáng)調(diào)，用于形容動作的程度和頻率。

語言點(diǎn)2 What happened to you?你怎么了?/What happened to your car?你的汽車出什么事了?
