Lesson 9 A cold welcome

課文內(nèi)容：

On Wednesday evening, we went to the TownHall. It was the last day of the year and a largecrowd of people had gathered under the TownHall clock. It would strike twelve in twentyminutes' time. Fifteen minutes passed and then, atfive to twelve, the clock stopped. The big minutehand did not move. We waited and waited, butnothing happened. Suddenly someone shouted, It'stwo minutes past twelve! The clock has stopped!' I looked at my watch. It was true. The bigclock refused to welcome the New Year. At that moment everybody began to laugh and sing.

本文語(yǔ)法：介詞與時(shí)間搭配

語(yǔ)法歸納：介詞on, in, at, by, until/till, during與時(shí)間搭配的正確用法：

on 多用于表示某天或節(jié)日等相對(duì)特定的時(shí)間前

in 多用在年、月、季度等一段時(shí)間前

at 多用在具體的點(diǎn)或短暫時(shí)間前

by 多用于表示“在……之前”、“直到……時(shí)候”

during 經(jīng)常表示在某一特定時(shí)間內(nèi)

until/till 意為“直到”

1.On Wednesday evening, we went to the Town Hall.

在星期三的晚上，我們?nèi)チ耸姓d。

語(yǔ)言點(diǎn) the Town Hall=the City Hall市政廳

hall意為“大廳，大堂;過(guò)道，走廊”：school hall禮堂;meeting hall會(huì)議廳;exhibition hall展覽廳;theGreat Hall of the People人民大會(huì)堂

2.It was the last day of the year and a large crowd of people had gathered underthe Town Hall clock.

這是一年的最后一天了，很多人都自發(fā)地聚集在市政廳的鐘下。

語(yǔ)言點(diǎn) last的常用意義：

1)上一個(gè)：last year去年;last month上個(gè)月;last summer去年夏天

2)(=final)最后的：on the last/final day of summer vacaion在暑假的最后一天

3.It would strike twelve in twenty minutes' time.

再過(guò)20分鐘，大鐘將敲響12下。

語(yǔ)言點(diǎn)1 "in+一段時(shí)間"可表示“一段時(shí)間之內(nèi)”;也可用于表示“一段時(shí)間之后”，多用于將來(lái)時(shí)。

1)在……內(nèi)：The bird covered the distance in 3 minutes.這只鴿子只用了3分鐘就飛越了這段距離。

2)在……之后(多與將來(lái)時(shí)連用)：I will come back in 5 days.我將在5天后回來(lái)。

語(yǔ)言點(diǎn)2 would在此處表示過(guò)去將來(lái)時(shí)。
