課文內(nèi)容：
The plane was late and detectives were waiting at the airport all morning. They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamond from South Africa. A few hours earlier, someone had told the police that thieves would try to steal the diamonds.When the plane arrived, some of the detectives were waiting inside the main building while others were waiting on the airfield. Two men took the parcel off the plane and carried it into the Customs House. While two detectives were keeping guard at the door, two others opened the parcel. To their surprise, the precious parcel was full of stones and sand!
本文語法：一般過去時(shí)和過去進(jìn)行時(shí)的區(qū)別
語法歸納：1)一般過去時(shí)：僅描述在過去某一時(shí)間發(fā)生的某一動(dòng)作。
2)過去進(jìn)行時(shí)：描述在過去的某一時(shí)間段內(nèi)正在發(fā)生的事情。
3)一般過去時(shí)和過去進(jìn)行時(shí)在時(shí)間狀語行句中的應(yīng)用：
1、動(dòng)作可延續(xù)，用過去進(jìn)行時(shí);動(dòng)作為瞬間性的，用一般過去時(shí)。
2、動(dòng)作延續(xù)時(shí)間長(zhǎng)，用過去進(jìn)行時(shí);動(dòng)作延續(xù)時(shí)間短，用一般過去時(shí)。
3、都是瞬間性動(dòng)作，均用一般過去時(shí)。
4、表述多次重復(fù)或習(xí)慣性的動(dòng)作時(shí)多用一般過去時(shí)。
精講筆記：
1.The plane was late and detectives were waiting at the airport all morning.
飛機(jī)晚點(diǎn)了，偵探們?cè)跈C(jī)場(chǎng)等了整整一個(gè)上午。
語言點(diǎn)1 late在此譯為“晚點(diǎn)了”比譯為“遲了”要好。
The train was late again.飛機(jī)又晚點(diǎn)了。
語言點(diǎn)2 all morning=the whole morning整個(gè)上午
2.They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamond from South Africa.
他們正在等候從南非運(yùn)來的一個(gè)裝有鉆石的貴重包裹。
語言點(diǎn)1 原文上一句謂語動(dòng)詞用wait，此句用expect，均表示“期待，等待”，避免了重復(fù)用詞。
語言點(diǎn)2 有關(guān)“一包，一條，一排”的表達(dá)：

定冠詞指“某一類”時(shí)的兩種不同用法：
the+名詞：the lion獅子
the+形容詞：the poor窮人
語言點(diǎn)3 tell sb. that...意思是“告訴某人關(guān)于某事”，that引導(dǎo)的賓語從句的內(nèi)容為真正講述的內(nèi)容，作直接賓語，而sb.為間接賓語。
He told us that the bus was late.他告訴我們公交車晚點(diǎn)了。
語言點(diǎn)4 would用于過去將來時(shí)態(tài)，其原形為will。因?yàn)槭虑榘l(fā)生在相對(duì)于過去時(shí)間的將來，故用would.
My mother said that she would leave 20,000 dollars for me.我媽說她會(huì)留兩萬美金給我。
語言點(diǎn)5 比較學(xué)習(xí)：
1)try to do sth.盡力做某事
Bill tried to write an English book.比爾在竭盡全力寫一本英語書。
2)try doing sth.試著做某事
The little boy tried phoning his home number.這個(gè)小男孩試著給他家里打電話。
文中選用try to steal the diamonds,可見這小偷有多么“敬業(yè)”。
