“進(jìn)來吧，愛德華。”
I breathed a sigh of relief when Charlie got his nameright.
我如釋重負(fù)地松了口氣，這次查理終于把他的名字念對(duì)了。
"Thanks, Chief Swan," Edward said in a respectfulvoice.
“謝謝，史溫警長(zhǎng)。”愛德華畢恭畢敬地說道。
"Go ahead and call me Charlie. Here, I'll take your jacket."
“進(jìn)來，叫我查理就行，我來拿你的外套。”
"Thanks, sir."
“謝謝，先生。”
"Have a seat there, Edward."
“坐吧，愛德華。”
I grimaced.
我扮了個(gè)鬼臉。
Edward sat down fluidly in the only chair, forcing me to sit next to Chief Swan on the sofa. Iquickly shot him a dirty look. He winked behind Charlie's back.
愛德華毫不猶豫地坐到了唯一的一張椅子上，逼得我只好過去和查理一起坐在沙發(fā)上。我飛快地狠狠瞪了他一眼。他在查理背后使了個(gè)眼色。
"So I hear you're getting my girl to watch baseball." Only in Washington would the fact that itwas raining buckets have no bearing at all on the playing of outdoor sports.
“那么，我聽說你要帶我的女兒去看棒球。”只有在華盛頓，外面下著傾盆大雨的事實(shí)才會(huì)對(duì)參加戶外運(yùn)動(dòng)毫無影響。
"Yes, sir, that's the plan." He didn't look surprised that I'd told my father the truth. He mighthave been listening, though.
“是的，先生。計(jì)劃是這樣的。”他看上去毫不驚訝于我居然把實(shí)情告訴了我爸爸。不過，他也許早就聽到了。
"Well, more power to you, I guess."
“嗯，我猜，我得祝你大大的好運(yùn)了。”
Charlie laughed, and Edward joined in.
查理大笑起來，而愛德華也跟著笑了起來。
"Okay." I stood up. "Enough humor at my expense. Let's go." I walked back to the hall andpulled on my jacket. They followed.
“好了。”我站起來。“拿我尋開心也該適可而止了。我們走吧。”我走回前廳，穿上我的外套。他們都跟著走了過來。
"Not too late, Bell."
“別待太晚，貝拉。”
"Don't worry, Charlie, I'll have her home early," Edward promised.
“別擔(dān)心，查理，我一定會(huì)早早把她送回家。”愛德華保證道。
"You take care of my girl, all right?"
“照顧好我女兒，好嗎?”
I groaned, but they ignored me.
我呻吟起來，但他們都無視我。
"She'll be safe with me, I promise, sir."
“她跟我在一起會(huì)很安全的，我保證，先生。”
Charlie couldn't doubt Edward's sincerity, it rang in every word.
查理根本無法質(zhì)疑愛德華的誠(chéng)意，他說出的每一個(gè)字都飽含著誠(chéng)摯。
I stalked out. They both laughed, and Edward followed me.
我大步走出屋外。他們都大笑起來，愛德華跟著我走出來。
