金子在天堂
There once was a rich man who was near death. He was very grieved because he had worked so hard for his money and wanted to be able to take it with him to heaven. So he began to pray that he might beable to take some of his wealth with him.
從前有個(gè)有錢人快要死了。他很傷心,因?yàn)樗簧荚谂嶅X,就想能把這些錢都帶到天堂去。于是他開始祈禱能帶著自己的財(cái)富走。
An angel heard his plea and appeared to him. "Sorry, but you can't take your wealth with you."
一個(gè)天使聽到了他的祈禱,出現(xiàn)在他的面前:“我很抱歉,你不能帶著你的錢。”
The man begged the angel to speak to God to see if He might bend the rules. The mancontinued to pray that his wealth could follow him.
那人求天使幫忙,于是天使去找上帝,看他能否修改規(guī)定。那人繼續(xù)祈禱自己能帶著錢走。
The angel reappeared and informed the man that God had decided to allow him to take onesuitcase with him. Overjoyed, the man gathered his largest suitcase and filled it with pure goldbars and placed it beside his bed.
天使又來了,告訴他上帝允許他隨身帶一只箱子。那人萬分高興,找到一只最大號(hào)的箱子,裝滿了金條,放在床邊。
Soon afterward, he died and showed up at the gates of heaven to greet St. Peter.
不久以后,那人死了,來到了天堂門前,見到了圣彼得。
St. Peter seeing the suitcase, said, "Hold on, you can't bring that in here!"
圣彼得看到他的箱子,說:“等一下,你不能把這東西帶進(jìn)來。”
The man explained to St. Peter that he had permission and asked him to verify his story withthe Lord.
那人告訴圣彼得自己是得到允許的,并請(qǐng)他去找上帝證實(shí)。
Sure enough, St. Peter checked it out, came back and said, "You're right. You are allowedone carry-on bag, but I'm suposed to check its contents before letting it through."
圣彼得得到了肯定的答復(fù),出來對(duì)他說:“不錯(cuò),你是可以帶一件隨身攜帶的行李,不過,讓你進(jìn)去之前,我要先檢查一下你箱子里的東西。”
St. Peter opened the suitcase to inspect the worldly itmes that the man found too preciousto leave behind and exclaimed, "You brought pavement?"
圣彼得打開箱子檢視里面裝著的世俗人覺得珍貴得無法拋開的東西后,叫道:“你帶了地磚來?”
