22 埋在花園里的鉆石
An old man lived alone in Northern Ireland. His only son John was in prison.The old man wanted to plant some wheat in his field but he didn't know anyone who would help him weed and plow up the field.
一個老人獨(dú)居在北愛爾蘭,他的獨(dú)生子約翰正在坐牢。老人想在花園里種些小麥,但不知道誰可以幫忙除草和翻松泥土。
He wrote to his son about it, and received this reply."For heaven's sake, don't dig up that field. That's where I buried a handful of diamonds".
他寫信向兒子提及此事,兒子回信說道:“看上帝的面子上,千萬不要翻松花園里的泥土,我把一些鉆石埋在那兒了。”
At dusk, a dozen British soldiers showed up with spades and dug up the entire field totally to seek the diamonds. But didn't find any precious stones.
黃昏的時候,一隊(duì)英國士兵拿著鐵鏟出現(xiàn)在老人的田里,把土地翻了個遍,但并沒有找到任何寶石。
Confused, John senior wrote to his son telling him what occurred and asking him what to do next.
老約翰不知道怎么回事,他寫信告訴兒子所發(fā)生的一切,并問他下一步應(yīng)該怎樣做。
His son's reply was: "God bless you, just plant your wheat."
兒子回信道:“上帝保佑你!你只管種麥子好了。”
