5月22日，“雜交水稻之父”袁隆平因多器官衰竭去世，享年91歲。受中共中央總書記、國家主席、中央軍委主席習(xí)近平委托，湖南省委書記許達(dá)哲專程看望了袁隆平同志的家屬，轉(zhuǎn)達(dá)習(xí)近平對袁隆平同志的深切悼念和對其家屬的親切問候。
President Xi Jinping has extended condolences to the family of scientist Yuan Longping, known as "father of hybrid rice," who died from multiple organ failure on May 22 at age 91. The condolences of Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, were conveyed by the secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Xu Dazhe, according to Hunan Daily. Xu visited Yuan's family and conveyed Xi's mourning for Yuan's passing.

習(xí)近平高度肯定袁隆平同志為我國糧食安全、農(nóng)業(yè)科技創(chuàng)新、世界糧食發(fā)展作出的重大貢獻(xiàn)，并要求廣大黨員、干部和科技工作者向袁隆平同志學(xué)習(xí)，強調(diào)我們對袁隆平同志的最好紀(jì)念，就是學(xué)習(xí)他熱愛黨、熱愛祖國、熱愛人民，學(xué)習(xí)他以祖國和人民需要為己任，以奉獻(xiàn)祖國和人民為目標(biāo)。
In the message, Xi highly affirmed Yuan's contribution to China's food security, innovation in agricultural technology, and world grain development. Xi urged Party members, cadres, and science and technology professionals to learn from Yuan, emphasizing that the best way to memorialize the scientist is to learn from him, particularly his love for the Party, the motherland and the people, his dedication to the needs of the motherland and the people, and his aspiration to serve the motherland and the people.

【知識點】
一顆種子可以改變一個世界。作為世界上第一個成功利用水稻雜種優(yōu)勢的科學(xué)家，袁隆平始終為端穩(wěn)中國人的飯碗和保障世界糧食安全不懈奮斗。
1971年春，湖南省農(nóng)業(yè)科學(xué)院成立雜交稻研究協(xié)作組，袁隆平調(diào)省農(nóng)業(yè)科學(xué)院雜交稻研究協(xié)作組工作。2年后，袁隆平在蘇州召開的水稻科研會議上發(fā)表了《利用“野稗”選育三系的進(jìn)展》的論文，正式宣告中國秈型雜交水稻“三系”已經(jīng)配套，產(chǎn)量在原來基礎(chǔ)上增產(chǎn)一倍有余。
1986年，袁隆平正式提出雜交水稻育種戰(zhàn)略：由三系法向兩系法，再到一系法，在程序上朝著由繁到簡但效率更高的方向發(fā)展。
9年努力，兩系法獲得成功！1996年，農(nóng)業(yè)部正式立項超級稻育種計劃。4年后，第一期每畝700公斤目標(biāo)實現(xiàn)。隨后便是2004年800公斤、2011年900公斤、2014年1000公斤的“三連跳”。
2020年11月2日，位于湖南省衡南縣的第三代雜交水稻新組合試驗示范基地迎來晚稻測產(chǎn)，測得晚稻平均畝產(chǎn)為911.7公斤，加上7月份測得的早稻平均畝產(chǎn)619.06公斤，由雜交水稻雙季測產(chǎn)突破1500公斤大關(guān)，再一次刷新紀(jì)錄。
自雜交水稻大面積推廣應(yīng)用以來，我國水稻畝產(chǎn)大幅度提升，為確保國家糧食安全提供了有力支撐。雜交水稻還在亞洲、美洲、非洲的眾多國家和地區(qū)大面積種植，為消除世界饑餓與貧困作出了突出貢獻(xiàn)。
