With her elfin face, slender waist and singular sense of style, Audrey Hepburn was as much a fashion icon as she was a film star, feted for standout roles in Roman Holiday, Sabrina and My Fair Lady.

The sale at Christies' in London this week will give fans a glimpse of the woman behind the image, and allow style-hunters to snap up some of her iconic pieces.

The lighter, right, was a gift from Gene Allen, art director on My Fair Lady and the engraved snuffbox, left, was a memento of the same film, from her co-star Rex Harrison. They are being sold as one lot. It is thought the pair will sell for £13,000.

Hepburn loved humble costume jewellery because it was fun, accessible and not so much of an investment. This piece is expected to raise £800 at auction.

Hepburn came toLondonshortly after the war to take up a scholarship with Marie Rambert, founder of Ballet Rambert – and ballet pumps became her favourite type of footwear. Her shoes are expected to raise around £9,000 a pair.
