I'm António Guterres, the Secretary-General of theUnited Nations.

我是聯(lián)合國秘書長安東尼奧·古特雷斯。

The Year of the Rooster symbolizes early starts andnew beginnings. It stresses the importance ofenergy, determination and a strong sense ofresponsibility at work. These are inspiring attributesto help guide us in troubled times.

雞年象征著凡事早早行動，也象征著迎來新的開端。雞年強調(diào)的是在工作中必須充滿活力，下定決心，還要有強烈的責任感。這些品質(zhì)有助于激勵鞭策我們應(yīng)對艱難時期。

I've called for 2017 to be a year for peace. We must work together to overcome conflict,human rights abuses, poverty and other crises. Above all, we must work to prevent theseproblems in the first place. This is why I've made prevention a top UN priority.

我已呼吁將2017年作為促進和平之年。我們必須共同努力克服沖突，打擊侵犯人權(quán)行為，消除貧窮，解決其他危機。最重要的是，我們對這些問題必須防患于未然。這就是我為什么把預(yù)防當作第一要務(wù)。

And China plays a vital role for the UN. I recently had the honor of meeting with President XiJinping in Geneva and I welcome his commitment to multilateralism and to strive to advanceour common goals for the future.

中國為聯(lián)合國發(fā)揮著至關(guān)重要的作用。我最近有幸在日內(nèi)瓦會見了習近平主席，我對于習主席承諾今后在我們推動共同目標的過程中堅持多邊主義表示了歡迎。
