五、其他否定形式

1.介詞短語表示否定

（1）beyond

beyond belief 難以置信　　　　　　beyond cure 不可救藥

2.常用否定句型

（1）too ...（for sb.）to do sth.意為“太……不能……”。

My brother is too young to go to school.我弟弟太小了還不能上學(xué)。

He ran too fast for me to keep up with him.他跑得太快我趕不上他。

（2）too much for sb.意為“使某人承受不了”。

The job is too much for you.這工作你勝任不了。

That’s too much for me.這我可受不了啦。

（3）no doing sth.意為“禁止，不準(zhǔn)……”。

No smoking！ 禁止吸煙。

No parking！ 禁止停車！

（4）before意為“來不及……，不等……”在從句中表示否定意義。

The bell rang before I could look over my answers.

我還沒來得及檢查一下答案鈴就響了。

He had rushed out before I could stop him.

我還沒來得及阻攔，他就沖出去了。

（5）rather than表示否定意義，意為“而不是，與其……（不如）”。

He ran rather than walked.他不是在走而是在跑。

He is a writer rather than a teacher.與其說他是教師還不如說他是作家。

You are doing this for yourself rather than for others.

你做這件事不是為別人而是為你自己。

It was what he meant rather than what he said.這是他的意思，而不是他說的話。
