九、had better

1.縮略式為’d better，后接動(dòng)詞原形，意為“最好，應(yīng)該”。

You’d better get some sleep.你最好去睡一會(huì)兒。

We had better go before it rains.我們最好在下雨前就去。

2.否定式和疑問式

（1）變否定式時(shí)，將not置于had better之后。

I’d better not disturb him.我最好不要去打攪他。

You’d better not play computer games.你最好不要玩電子游戲。

（2）變疑問式時(shí)，將had置于主語之前。

Had we better not go？ 我們不去好不好？

What had we better do？ 我們最好做什么？

3.had better后的時(shí)態(tài)形式

You’d better be quiet.你最好安靜一些。（現(xiàn)在）

You’d better start tomorrow.你最好明天動(dòng)身。（將來）

I think I’d better be going.我想我最好還是馬上走。（馬上做）

You had better have stayed here.你本來應(yīng)該呆在這兒的。（過去該做但實(shí)際上沒做）

4.would rather

（1）表示一種心理愿望，意為“寧愿”。

I’d rather do it by myself.我寧愿獨(dú)自一人去做那件事。

I’d rather you came tomorrow.我倒想要你明天來。

I’d rather you had finished it yesterday.我倒想你昨天就做完了。

（2）否定形式：not置于rather之后。

I’d rather not say anything.我寧可什么也不說。

I’d rather not tell you about it.我倒想不告訴你為好。

（3）疑問形式：將would提到句首。

Would you rather give the chance up？ 你寧愿把機(jī)會(huì)放棄嗎？

Which would you rather have，tea or coffee？ 你喜歡喝茶，還是咖啡？

（4）would rather構(gòu)成的句式

would rather do ...than do ...寧愿……而不……

would do ...rather than do ...寧愿……而不……

prefer to do ...rather than do ...寧愿……而不……

I’d rather die than give in.我寧愿死，也不會(huì)屈服。

The boy would play computer games rather than do his homework.

男孩寧愿打電玩也不愿做作業(yè)。

I prefer to watch TV than play mah-jong.我寧愿看電視也不愿打麻將。

【提示】 than前后是同一動(dòng)詞時(shí)，可省略后面的動(dòng)詞，構(gòu)成“平行結(jié)構(gòu)”。

I’d rather play football than basketball.我寧愿踢足球也不愿打籃球。（名詞+名詞）

I’d rather go by bike than by bus.我寧愿騎單車也不愿坐公共汽車。（介詞短語+介詞短語）

I’d rather be healthy than rich.與其有錢，不如身體健康。（形容詞+形容詞）

I’d rather do it slowly than carelessly.與其粗心，還不如慢一點(diǎn)。（副詞+副詞）
