1.情態(tài)動詞need的用法

（1）接動詞原形，意為“需要”，通常用于疑問句、否定句和條件句中。

Need he go so soon？ 他這么快就要走嗎？

You need not pay — it is free.你不必付錢，這是免費的。

He wondered whether they need go there.他不知道他們是否需要去那里。

Nobody need be afraid of catching the disease.誰都不用害怕會得這種病。

（2）疑問句中，肯定答語用must，否定答語用needn’t。

— Need I do anything for you？ 需要我為你做些什么嗎？

— Yes，you must.是呀，你得做。

— No，you needn’t.不，沒有必要。

2.實義動詞need的用法

（1）及物動詞，有人稱、數(shù)及時態(tài)的變化，可以接不定式作賓語或賓補。

He needs a good night’s sleep.他需要好好睡一晚上。（名詞作賓語）

You don’t need to leave so early.你們不需要走這么早。（不定式作賓語）

I need someone to look after her.我需要找個人照看她。（不定式作賓補）

【比較】

①He needn’t work so hard.他不需要如此地努力工作。（情態(tài)動詞）

②He doesn’t need to work so hard.他不需要如此地努力工作。（實義動詞）

（2）接動名詞作賓語時，要用主動形式表被動意義。

The house needs cleaning.房子需要清理。

The clock needs winding once a week.這只鐘每周需要上一次發(fā)條。

This chapter needs rewriting.這一章需要重寫。

【提示】

①need doing=need to be done，意為“某物需要被……”。

My coat needs mending.我的外衣需要修補。

my coat needs to be mended.

②與need相同，want，require也可接動名詞作賓語，用主動形式表示被動意義。

The floor needs/wants/requires washing/to be washed.地板需要沖洗。

3.need的特殊句式

（1）needn’t have done，表示“本來不必做某事，實際上卻做了”；用于疑問句時，表示詢問過去某一動作的必要性。

You needn’t have hurried.你當時實在不必那么匆忙。

Need you have paid so much？ 你當時真需要付那么多錢嗎？

（2）didn’t need to do sth.意為“不需要做某事”，實際上也沒做。

He didn’t need to be reminded about it.不必向他提醒那件事。

I didn’t need to go to the office yesterday.昨天我不必去上班。

【比較】

①We had plenty of bread，so I didn’t need to buy a leaf.

我們有許多面包，我不需買了。（我還沒買）

②We had plenty of bread，so I needn’t have bought a leaf.

我們有許多面包，我真的不需再買一塊。（我已經(jīng)買了）

（3）needn’t與don’t have to同義，意為“不必”。

You don’t have to/needn’t tell him about it.你不必告訴他這件事。

We don’t have to/needn’t be standing here in the rain.我們不必在雨里站著。

4.名詞need的用法

There is no need for sth.沒有必要做某事

There is no need to do sth.沒有必要做某事

There is no need for sb.to do sth.某人沒有必要做某事

There is no need for anxiety.不必焦慮。

There is no need to be anxious.不必焦慮。

There is no need for you to be anxious.你不必焦慮。
