四、指示代詞的替代作用

1.that，those的替代用法

（1）that代替不可數(shù)名詞和單數(shù)可數(shù)名詞，特指時相當(dāng)于the one。

The climate in China is much warmer than that in Russia.

中國的氣候比俄羅斯的氣候要溫暖得多。（that代替climate）

The price of wheat is higher than that of rice.

小麥的價格比大米高。（that代替the price）

The population of China is larger than that of Japan.

中國的人口比日本多。（that代替the population）

This painting is not so good as that I saw in the gallery yesterday.

這幅油畫不及我昨天在美術(shù)館看到的那幅好。（that=the one代替painting）

（2）those代替復(fù)數(shù)名詞，相當(dāng)于the ones。

The TV sets made in Shanghai are better than those made in Beijing.

上海生產(chǎn)的電視機比北京生產(chǎn)的好。（those=the ones代替television sets）

The students in our class work harder than those in their class.

我們班的同學(xué)比他們班的同學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)更刻苦。（those代替the students）

2.其他替代詞用法

Radios are useful for me to learn English.I’d like to buy one.

收音機對我學(xué)英語很有用，我想買一臺。（one替代a radio，是泛指收音機）

We still have shortcomings，and they are very big ones too.

我們還有缺點，而且是很大的缺點。（ones替代shortcomings）

I don’t want the book on the self，I want the one on the desk.

我不想要書架上的那本書，我想要課桌上那本。（the one替代the book）

The houses of the rich are generally larger than the ones of the poor.

富人的房子一般比窮人的房子大。（the ones=those替代the houses）
