Laoyou Noodles is Guangxi's most well-known snack and its history goes back several hundred years. There is an interesting story behind this dish. At one time there was an old man who frequently went to a teahouse run by a person surnamed Zhou. One day, this old man did not go to this teahouse because he came down with a bad cold. When the boss of the teahouse got this news, he cooked a bowl of noodles using garlic powder, fermented soybeans, pepper, sour bamboo shoots, beef powder, and the like. The old man recovered quickly after having this bowl of noodles, making them instantly famous. The most notable characteristic of these noodles and their main claim to fame is that they make one's stomach feel warmer.
Bazhen Rice Noodles is also very famous Guangxi dish. It is said that during the Qing Dynasty, the ingredients used in Bazhen Rice Noodles included dried fruit, seafood, fresh vegetables, and the like.
Nanning people long ago developed a special affection for ducks and raising ducks. This behavior is closely related to Nanning's climate. Nanning is well-known for its hot climate and it's also said that duck meat can mitigate the heat inside one's body. By contrast, goose meat can introduce viruses into the body and cause internal swelling and inflammation. It is said that roast duck first became a dish during the early Qing Dynasty. The ducks used for this dish are called Sesame Ducks, which have a fragrant and tender flavor. The ingredients for dishes, their preparation, and eating styles differ widely across China's regions. That's why Nanning's roast duck and Beijing roast duck are the most distinctive representatives of northern and southern cooking styles.
