風(fēng)琴師奏出的贊美詩使鐵欄桿前的蘇比入定了，因?yàn)楫?dāng)他在生活中有母愛、玫瑰、雄心、朋友以及潔白無瑕的思想與衣領(lǐng)時(shí)，贊美詩對(duì)他來說是很熟悉的。

一、作為副詞，when有以下的用法：

1. 作為疑問副詞，引導(dǎo)特殊疑問句，意為“什么時(shí)候；何時(shí)”。

When will they come back？
他們什么時(shí)候回來？

2. 作連接副詞，引導(dǎo)名詞性從句或不定式，意為“什么時(shí)候”。從句使用陳述句語序，時(shí)態(tài)根據(jù)實(shí)際情況而定。

I'd like to know when they will come. （ when 引導(dǎo)賓語從句）
我想知道他們什么時(shí)候來。

 When she'll be back depends much on the weather. （ when 引導(dǎo)主語從句）
她何時(shí)回來在很大程度上取決于天氣。

Have you decided when to go sightseeing？ （ when 引導(dǎo)不定式結(jié)構(gòu)）
你們已經(jīng)決定什么時(shí)候去郊游了嗎？

3. 作疑問代詞，常和介詞 since， till， up to 等連用，意為“什么時(shí)候”。

Since when have they had the house？
他們從什么時(shí)候起有這幢房子的？

Till when is the library open？
圖書館開放到幾點(diǎn)呢？

4. 作關(guān)系副詞，引導(dǎo)限制性定語從句和非限制性定語從句。

The days are gone forever when the Chinese people were looked down upon.
中國人民被人輕視的日子一去不復(fù)返了。

The main school holidays are from mid-December till early February, when the days are long and warm.
學(xué)校的主要假期是從 12 月中旬到 2 月初，這段時(shí)間里白天長(zhǎng)而且很溫暖。

二、作為從屬連詞，引導(dǎo)狀語從句，表示多種語法意義：

1. 表示時(shí)間，意為“當(dāng)……時(shí)；在……的時(shí)候”。

When you see him， please say hello to him.
見到他時(shí)，代我問他好。

When I was in Japan， I bought some beautiful pearls.
我在日本時(shí)，買了一些漂亮的珍珠。

When I reached the station, the train had left.
當(dāng)我到達(dá)火車站時(shí)，火車已經(jīng)開走了。

2. 表示前面的敘述所沒有提到過的信息。它總是對(duì)所描述的事件予以引人注目的強(qiáng)調(diào)，意為“這時(shí)；突然”：

I was thinking of this when I heard my name called.
我正想著這件事時(shí)，突然聽到有人叫我的名字。

We were about to start when it began to rain.
我們剛要出發(fā)就開始下雨了。

We had hardly fallen asleep when the bell rang.
