旅游英語(yǔ)：度假天堂—夏威夷

For most of us, Hawaii begins to weave her spell(魅力)with some little glimmer(微光) of awareness. Golden beaches and golden people. Sun, sand, sea, and surf……And somewhere between the blue skies and the palm trees(棕櫚樹(shù))……we're hooked(吸引).

The Hawaiian Islands are one of the most beautiful places on earth. The weather is friendly. The temperature ranges(在一定范圍內(nèi)變化)from 60-90 degrees all year long. It's a little warmer in summer, and a little cooler in winter, but every day is a beach day for somebody.

It has allowed a melting pot(熔爐)of cultures from all over the world to find common ground(共同點(diǎn)), and a new home, in this most gentle of places.

vocabulary:

1.hook

hook做名詞，通常指釣魚(yú)時(shí)使用的“魚(yú)鉤”，并由此引申出一系列詞匯和用法。

(1)hook后加er，可以理解為“放下魚(yú)鉤的人”，實(shí)際上就是我們常說(shuō)的“妓女”。如：

He was surprised to see hookers move into the next apartment.

他看到妓女搬入隔壁公寓時(shí)，嚇了一跳。

(2)hook, line and sinker本來(lái)是釣魚(yú)時(shí)使用的工具，但放在一起組成片語(yǔ)，就成了“全部”的意思，通常還帶有受騙的意思。如：

I warned Sally not to believe that man's stories about how rich he was, but she swallowed them hook, line and sinker. After she married him, she found out he owed money to everbody in his office.

我告訴沙利不要相信那個(gè)男人說(shuō)的他多么有錢(qián)之類的話?？墒巧忱麉s一點(diǎn)都沒(méi)有懷疑他。等到結(jié)婚才發(fā)現(xiàn)這個(gè)人幾乎向每個(gè)同事都借了錢(qián)。

(3)短語(yǔ)hook up，意思是“介紹認(rèn)識(shí)”，比如某人正在找份工作，他的朋友剛好認(rèn)識(shí)比爾蓋茲(Bill Gates)，他就可以跟這位朋友說(shuō)：

Hey! Since you're a friend of Bill's, why don't you hook me up?

嘿!既然你是比爾的朋友，幫我介紹一下吧!

2.Aloha

ALOHA是夏威夷最常見(jiàn)的問(wèn)候語(yǔ)，依語(yǔ)調(diào)不同，分別有“你好”、“歡迎”、“珍重”、“再見(jiàn)”等意。“ALOHA”還有“我愛(ài)你”的意思，要表達(dá)此意，須先攢足底氣，讓那“LO”聲高而且長(zhǎng)，拖到將要斷氣，表達(dá)愛(ài)之至深至切。

當(dāng)然，不管這個(gè)詞的意思怎樣豐富，人們主要還是用它來(lái)打招呼。到了夏威夷，你不妨也試試吧!

An idle young man finds fun in seeking casual joy and love all day long.

一個(gè)無(wú)所事事的年輕人整天在膚淺的喜悅和愛(ài)情中尋找快樂(lè)。

He didn't sleep a wink last night because he kept cough all night long.

他昨夜無(wú)法成眠，因?yàn)樗苟荚诳人浴?

提示：all和long之間，可以使用任意一個(gè)表示時(shí)間的名詞，如month, year等，這句話的意思也就要相應(yīng)的變成“整月/年”等。另外，all day和all day long意思差不錯(cuò)，區(qū)別在于后者更強(qiáng)調(diào)這段時(shí)間全部用來(lái)做一件事。
