美國出版社推出袖珍橫版口袋書

"Dwarsliggers" -- tiny, pocket-size, horizontalflip backs that have been popular in Europe -- have come to the US.

風靡歐洲的口袋大小的袖珍橫版翻背書“dwarsliggers(翻背口袋書)”，已于日前登陸美國市場。

Dutton Books for Young Readers, which is part of Penguin Random House, began releasing the firstdwarsliggers in the US, with four novels by the best-selling young-adult novelist John Green, including"The Fault in Our Stars".

企鵝蘭登書屋旗下的杜頓青年讀者書籍出版社近日開始發(fā)布美國的首批翻背口袋書：暢銷青年小說作者約翰·格林的《星運里的錯》等4本小說。

The tiny editions are the size of a cell phone and no thicker than your thumb, with paper as thin as onion skin.

這種袖珍書手機般大小，厚度不及拇指，書頁薄如洋蔥皮。

They can be read with one hand -- the text flows horizontally, and you can flip the pages upward, like swiping a smartphone.

The term dwarsligger comes from the Dutch words "dwars", or crossways, and "liggen", to lie, and also means a person or thing that stands out as different.

Dwarsligger這個詞源于荷蘭文中的dwars和liggen，dwars意為“交叉地”，liggen有“平躺”的意思，也表示“與眾不同的人或事物”。

In the last decade or so, the format, introduced in Holland in 2009, has spread across Europe, and nearly 10 million copies have been sold.
