37. 數(shù)字與諧音

The Chinese concept of lucky numbers is similar to that of other cultures. The key to distinguish good or bad numbers for Cantonese is based on sound. For example, the number two is fortunate, because it is similar to the sound of“easy”. Three is associated with living. The number four sounds like“death”in Chinese. Six represents good luck. Eight is associated with“prosperity”and is desirable for all occasions. Nine is associated with“eternity”. Originally it could only be used by the imperial family. For example, the Forbidden City was designed with 9,999 rooms.

中國幸運(yùn)數(shù)字（lucky numbers）的概念與其他文化相似。對廣東人來說，區(qū)別好數(shù)字與壞數(shù)字的關(guān)鍵是根據(jù)發(fā)音。例如，2是幸運(yùn)的，因?yàn)樗?ldquo;容易”的發(fā)音相似。3與生活有關(guān)。4在漢語里聽起來像“死”。6代表好運(yùn)。8與“繁榮”有關(guān)，所有場合都適用。9與“永恒（eternity）”相聯(lián)系。起初只有皇家（the imperial family）才能用9。例如，故宮就設(shè)計(jì)有9999個房間。
