A: So, Julia, now you are a parent.
 
朱莉婭，你現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)當(dāng)媽媽了。
 
B: That's right.

A: And have you heard of all these terms that we have in the US for different types of parents? I wonder if you have them in the UK?
 
你聽(tīng)說(shuō)過(guò)美國(guó)對(duì)家長(zhǎng)的分類嗎？我想知道英國(guó)是不是也有這種分類？
 
B: You mean like soccer mum, stuff like that?
 
你是指“足球媽媽”這種嗎？
 
A: Exactly.

B: That's the only one I've heard of actually.
 
其實(shí)我只聽(tīng)說(shuō)過(guò)這個(gè)。
 
A: OK. So what do you think a soccer mom is? What have you heard?
 
好。你認(rèn)為什么是“足球媽媽”？你聽(tīng)說(shuō)過(guò)什么？
 
B: My image is a mother who dedicates her time to running her kids to and from soccer practice. Is that right?
 
我的理解是將時(shí)間都用在接送孩子參加足球訓(xùn)練上的那種母親。對(duì)嗎？
 
A: Right.
 
對(duì)。
 
B: And also drives a big vehicle? My image is of a big SUV or a big four wheel drive.
 
通常她們會(huì)開(kāi)比較大的車？我想是SUV那種或是大的四驅(qū)車。
 
A: Right. I think it's also, it's like a parent that has many scheduled events for their child.
 
對(duì)。我認(rèn)為就是那種為孩子安排很多活動(dòng)的家長(zhǎng)。
 
B: Oh, OK.
 
哦，好。
 
A: So maybe they have swimming class or soccer practice, ballet and stuff like that.
 
可能孩子要上游泳課、足球課、芭蕾課之類的。
 
B: Oh, maybe I'm a little bit of a soccer mum.
 
哦，也許我算是“足球媽媽”。
 
A: Yeah, I think now, yeah. I think it's actually a good term. It's like, I think a soccer mom usually is considered a caring parent.
 
嗯，對(duì)。我認(rèn)為這是一個(gè)褒義詞。我認(rèn)為“足球媽媽”是那種關(guān)懷備至的家長(zhǎng)。
 
B: OK.
 
好。
 
A: And they try to have their child doing productive things.
 
他們盡力讓孩子去做富有成效的事。
 
B: It must be pretty, quite an affluent perhaps middle class kind of parent.
 
那一定是非常富有或是中產(chǎn)階級(jí)家長(zhǎng)。
 
A: Yeah, exactly, exactly. Now we have the equivalent, it's called a Nascar dad.
 
對(duì)，沒(méi)錯(cuò)。現(xiàn)在還有一個(gè)相同意思的詞，“納斯卡爸爸”。
 
B: Is Nascar some kind of car racing?
 
納斯卡是賽車比賽的名字嗎？
 
A: Yeah, basically it's just the, these cars they run around and ride around in a circle. It's kind of like horse racing for cars, you just go round and round. But, yeah, so I guess it's the same thing. It's just a dad who's really, you know, really into his kids, spends a lot of time with his kids.
 
對(duì)，比賽時(shí)車輛要一圈一圈地繞賽道。就好像是賽馬比賽一樣，在賽道上一圈一圈地跑。不過(guò)我想意思是一樣的。就是指非常關(guān)心孩子、花很多時(shí)間和孩子在一起的那種爸爸。
 
B: Would this be a stay at home dad, like a...?
 
那是全職爸爸嗎？
 
A: No, no. It's just kind of like a good old boy father, like a dad who's kind of blue collar, not rich, you know, maybe lower middle class maybe but just kind of like your typical sitcom, TV sitcom dad I guess.
 
不是。有點(diǎn)兒像是優(yōu)秀爸爸，他們可能是藍(lán)領(lǐng)工人，不是很有錢，也可能是中低階層，或是情景喜劇里那種爸爸。
 
B: But that's nice. Takes his kids everywhere, that's nice.
 
這很好。他們會(huì)帶孩子去各個(gè)地方，這很好。
 
A: Yeah, yeah.

B: Involved in the...

A: Yeah, like a Nascar dad would probably take his sons hunting and maybe take his daughter shopping and stuff like that.
 
“納斯達(dá)爸爸”可能會(huì)帶兒子去打獵，或是帶女兒去購(gòu)物。
