True Grit is a 2010 American Western film written and directed by the Coen brothers. It is the second adaptation of Charles Portis' 1968 novel of the same name, which was previously filmed in 1969 starring John Wayne. This version stars Hailee Steinfeld as Mattie Ross and Jeff Bridges as U. S. Marshal Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn, along with Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Barry Pepper.

1870s frontier America, just after the Civil War: Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) arrives in Fort Smith, Arkansas, as her family's sole representative, in search of the coward Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), who is said to have killed her father for two gold pieces before setting out into Indian Territory as a fugitive. Beholden to follow Chaney and see him hanged, Mattie enlists the help of a man rumored to be the most ruthless U.S. Marshal in town—trigger-happy, drunken Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), who, after many objections, agrees to hunt Chaney. But Chaney is already the target of the talkative Texas Ranger LaBoeuf (Matt Damon), who also aims to catch the killer and bring him back to Texas for an ample reward—which brings the trio to collide on the trail. Each willful and stubborn, each driven by their own rough moral codes, this unlikely posse rides towards an unpredictable reckoning, as they find themselves enveloped in the stuff of legend: mischief and brutality, courage and disillusion, doggedness and unalloyed love.

Filming began in March 2010, and True Grit was officially released in the U. S. on December 22, 2010 (after advance screenings earlier that month). The film opened the 61st Berlin International Film Festival on February 10, 2011.

The film received almost universal critical acclaim. Rotten Tomatoes reported that 96% of critics gave the film a positive review based on 235 reviews, with an average score of 8.3/10 and with its consensus stating:"Girded by strong performances from Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, and lifted by some of the Coens' most finely tuned, unaffected work, True Grit is a worthy companion to the Charles Portis book." It was nominated for ten Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Jeff Bridges), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Hailee Steinfeld), Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Sound Editing. The film was released on Blu-ray and DVD on June 7, 2011.

影片改編自查爾斯·波蒂斯創(chuàng)作于1968年的同名小說。

《大地驚雷》曾經(jīng)在1969年被搬上銀幕。而且在1975年，還拍攝了續(xù)集。

為了找到影片中瑪?shù)?middot;羅斯的扮演者，導(dǎo)演科恩兄弟專門在影片開拍前1年設(shè)立了一個(gè)招募小演員的網(wǎng)站來搜羅合適的適齡女孩。

在1969年的《大地驚雷》中，約翰·韋恩扮演了警長羅斯特·考格波恩，并憑借著這個(gè)角色拿下了奧斯卡最佳男主角獎(jiǎng)。在新版本中，羅斯特·考格波恩這個(gè)角色由杰夫·布里吉斯扮演。巧合的是，這兩個(gè)男演員有著類似的綽號(hào)，約翰·韋恩的綽號(hào)是公爵（Duke），而布里吉斯的是花花公子（Dude）。布里吉斯的綽號(hào)來自于他和科恩兄弟合作的影片《謀殺綠腳趾》。
