Chapter 22

The next day, MU’s stadium was packed with cheering students. The Greek Council president stood onstage and addressed the crowd. “Welcome to the final competition of the Scare Games!” she shouted.
Then the Oozmas came out in their team caps and sweaters. They waved, and the crowd went wild. As the RORs took the stage, the Greek Council president said to the teams, “It’s time to see how terrifying you really are — in the scare simulators!”
She indicated two scare simulators on the f ield, one for each team. Competitors would go head to head. “But be warned,” the president added, “each simulated scare has been set to the highest dif f iculty level!”
“The highest level?” Squishy said nervously.
Mike felt nervous, too. But he took a breath and turned to his team. “Okay, just like we planned. I’ll go first, then Don.”
“Hold on,” Sulley interjected. “Mike’s the one who started all this. And I think it’s only right if he’s the one who finishes it. I think you should go last.”
Mike looked up in surprise. But the others quickly agreed. “Yeah!” said Don.
“Good idea,” Terry added.
“Right on, man!” Art said heartily.
Mike was flattered. “All right,” he told his teammates. “Don? You okay starting f irst?”
“Sure,” Don replied. The Oozmas formed a circle and stacked their hands. Mike placed his on top, and they cheered, “Oooooooozma Kappa!”
Don ran to the Oozma simulator while Reggie, a ROR brother, raced to the RORs’ simulator. They waited for the light that would signal them to start.
“Take it easy on grandpa!” Johnny yelled from the sidelines as the light outside the simulators f lashed from red to green. It was time to GO!
Don carefully opened the door of the simulator and entered the dark room. The crowd watched on the stadium’s Jumbotron as Don stealthily dodged the toys on the f loor.
Meanwhile, Reggie crept into his simulator room and immediately stepped on a rubber ducky. He gasped as the duck squeaked, and the sim-kid sat up in bed. Reggie’s plan was thrown of f, but he quickly recovered and ROARED!
“AHHHHH!” the sim-kid screamed.
At the same time, inside the Oozma simulator, Don’s sim-kid was also sitting up. But Don was clinging to the ceiling above. Suddenly, Don swooped down toward the bed, hanging by one arm as he ROARED! The sim-kid screamed his sim lungs out.
When Reggie and Don exited the simulators, Don’s scream can was fuller than Reggie’s by an inch! Don looked at the RORs and smiled. “Good luck, kids,” he said smugly. Reggie was stunned.
Next, Terri and Terry walked up to the simulator door. Their opponent for the RORs was Chet, who glared at the brothers. But Terri and Terry stayed upbeat. “LET’S DO THIS!” they shouted as the light turned green.
Inside the ROR simulator, Chet snuck up to the bed and let out a fearsome ROARRRRR! Johnny cheered as the scoreboard showed Chet’s scream-can results. It was going to be a hard score to beat.
Inside the Oozma simulator, the sim-kid sat up in bed. The kid spotted what looked like the silhouette of a human dad standing in the room. The sim-kid was about to lie back down when the silhouette suddenly split into a looming two-headed creature. The sim-kid screamed in terror as both heads roared! Their scare came in just below Chet’s!
Next came Squishy. The sim-kid was lying in his bed when his closet door slowly opened. The child looked over at the door, but now it was shut. Then an eerie shadow passed the window. The sim-kid was about to lie back down when it saw Squishy lying in bed beside him. The sim-kid screamed — and Squishy’s scream can f illed more than halfway!
“Wooo!” Ms. Squibbles cheered.
Art entered the simulator room next. He was competing against a four-armed bug monster from the RORs. Art carefully crept to the foot of the sim-kid’s bed. Then he jumped onto the end of the bed and struck a strange yoga pose. He warbled a creepy roar, and his scream can f illed up halfway.
That was a good score, but not great — and the Oozmas were falling further and further behind. The team was disappointed, but they rallied as they realized it was time to bring out their strongest Scarers: Sulley and Mike!

第 22 章

第二天，怪獸大學(xué)體育館內(nèi)座無虛席，歡呼聲此起彼伏。希臘議會會長站在舞臺上，對觀眾們大聲喊道：“歡迎來到‘驚嚇杯’的決賽現(xiàn)場！”
只見OK會成員們身穿隊服，頭戴隊帽，走進賽場。他們朝觀眾們揮手致意，現(xiàn)場的氣氛一下就被點燃了。這時精嚇會也來到賽場。希臘議會會長對選手們說道：“今天你們要在驚嚇模擬艙里展示你們真正的驚嚇能力了！”
會長向觀眾展示了場上的兩間驚嚇模擬艙，每個隊伍使用一間，選手需要以接力的方式進行一對一比拼。“有一點必須提醒大家，”會長補充說，“模擬艙的驚嚇參數(shù)已經(jīng)被設(shè)置為最高難度！”
“最高難度?。?rdquo;史乖寶不由得緊張起來。
麥克心里也十分緊張，但他深吸一口氣，轉(zhuǎn)過身對大家說：“聽著，按照計劃，我先來，然后是老唐。”
“等一等，”毛怪突然說道，“這件事是由麥克發(fā)起的，整件事也應(yīng)該由他來結(jié)束。麥克，你應(yīng)該壓軸出場。”
麥克詫異地抬頭看著毛怪，但大家很快就同意了。“好！”老唐說道。
“好主意。”泰銳欣然答應(yīng)。
“就該這樣！”阿拱熱切地說道。
麥克有點受寵若驚，他沖隊友們說：“好吧，那老唐你第一個上？”
“沒問題。”老唐爽快地回答。OK會隊員們圍成一圈，將手掌疊在一起，麥克的手在最上面。大家齊聲喊道：“OK會必勝！”
老唐跑到OK會隊那間模擬艙前，精嚇會的雷吉則沖向他們隊的模擬艙。倆人摩拳擦掌，等待“開始”的指示燈亮起。
“給這位‘老爺爺’留點面子！”強哥在場邊沖雷吉大聲喊道。這時模擬艙的指示燈由紅轉(zhuǎn)綠，比賽開始！
老唐小心翼翼地打開模擬艙門，進入一間黑漆漆的屋子里，躡手躡腳地避開地板上散落的玩具。觀眾可以通過體育館的超大顯示屏，觀看模擬艙里發(fā)生的一切。
與此同時，雷吉也潛入模擬艙房間，可是他很快就踩到了一只橡皮鴨玩具。鴨子發(fā)出“吱吱”的聲響，床上的智能小孩立即坐了起來。雷吉嚇得倒吸一口冷氣，原本的計劃泡湯了。但他很快鎮(zhèn)定下來，對著小孩發(fā)出一聲吼叫。
“啊——”智能小孩驚叫起來。
與此同時，OK會隊的模擬艙內(nèi)，床上的智能小孩也坐了起來。但老唐正緊貼在天花板上。突然他一個俯沖，單臂懸掛著發(fā)出一聲怒吼，智能小孩被嚇得高聲尖叫起來。
一輪結(jié)束，雷吉和老唐走出了模擬艙。老唐看到自己罐中收集的驚叫量超出雷吉整整一英寸，便看著精嚇會笑道：“祝你們好運了，孩子們。”雷吉完全被驚呆了。
接下來輪到泰瑞和泰銳兄弟上場了，他們的對手是喳喳。兄弟倆絲毫不顧喳喳挑釁的目光，斗志昂揚地喊道：“給他露一手！”這時綠燈亮了起來。
精嚇會隊的模擬艙內(nèi)，喳喳悄悄來到床邊，發(fā)出了一陣令人毛骨悚然的吼叫聲。記分板上顯示出喳喳尖叫收集罐的成果，這個驚嚇量著實很難超越，強哥不禁拍手叫好。
OK會隊這邊，智能小孩也坐了起來，他瞥見房間里的人影，還以為站著的是一位人類父親。當(dāng)他準(zhǔn)備躺回去時，人影突然變成了長著兩個頭的怪獸，赫然出現(xiàn)在他眼前。怪獸的兩個頭同時吼叫起來，小孩嚇得魂兒都沒了。兄弟倆得分也不賴，只和喳喳差一丁點兒！
接下來出場的是史乖寶。智能小孩正躺在床上，房間里壁櫥的門緩緩打開了。小孩朝那里望去，門卻已經(jīng)關(guān)上了。這時，窗戶上掠過了一道怪異的影子。智能小孩正準(zhǔn)備躺下，史乖寶卻冷不丁地躺在了他身旁。小孩失聲尖叫起來，史乖寶的尖叫收集罐一下裝了一大半驚嚇量。
“太棒啦！”史太太大聲歡呼起來。
下一個輪到阿拱上場。精嚇會隊則派出一只長著四條胳膊的甲蟲怪獸。阿拱躡手躡腳地來到智能小孩的床腳邊，接著跳上床尾，擺出一個奇怪的瑜伽姿勢。他用顫音發(fā)出一陣令人毛骨悚然的吼聲，他的尖叫收集罐一下子就裝了一半。
阿拱得分不錯，但還遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)不夠。OK會已經(jīng)被精嚇會遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)甩在了后面。大家感到十分沮喪，但是一想到接下來要出場的是他們團隊中兩個強有力的“大腕”——毛怪和麥克，大家又充滿了期待。
