當(dāng)別人提到猴子的時(shí)候，你腦子里會(huì)出現(xiàn)一個(gè)什么形像呢？一般來(lái)說(shuō)，人們認(rèn)為猴子是一個(gè)很聰敏的動(dòng)物，大家都喜歡觀察它們，這是因?yàn)楹镒拥男袆?dòng)往往跟人很像。它們也確實(shí)和人一樣有的時(shí)候很調(diào)皮、愛(ài)耍花招。美國(guó)的成語(yǔ)和俗語(yǔ)也反應(yīng)了猴子的這些特點(diǎn)。今天我們要講的兩個(gè)習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)就是和猴子的特性有關(guān)的。我們要介紹的第一個(gè)俗語(yǔ)就是：monkey business。 Monkey 就是猴子的意思， business 是指做生意或辦什么事。但是 monkey 和 business 兩個(gè)字合在一起用的時(shí)候，它們的意思就變了。 Monkey business 是指不道德或不合法的行為，往往是偷偷摸摸和具有欺騙性的行為，例如盜用公款等。下面我們來(lái)舉一個(gè)例子：

例句-1: "The newspapers say there's a lot of monkey business going on at city hall, with officials getting money under the table from people who want the contract to build the new airport."

這句話的意思是："有些報(bào)紙說(shuō)，市政府里有許多見(jiàn)不得人的事，有的營(yíng)造商為了從市政府獲得建造新機(jī)場(chǎng)的合同而偷偷地用錢賄賂市政府的官員。"

Monkey business 不一定指當(dāng)官的人貪污腐化，一般人當(dāng)中也可能出現(xiàn)不軌行為，下面這個(gè)人說(shuō)的就是一個(gè)例子：

例句-2: "I think there's some kind of monkey business going on in that house across the street. People going in and out all day long; maybe they're selling drugs or something."

這個(gè)人說(shuō)："我看對(duì)馬路那個(gè)房子里的人一定在進(jìn)行一些不正當(dāng)?shù)墓串?dāng)。一天到晚老有人進(jìn)進(jìn)出出，他們可能在販毒，或搞其他什么鬼名堂！"

下面我們要講的一個(gè)和 monkey 有關(guān)的俗語(yǔ)是 to make a monkey out of somebody。 Somebody 是指某個(gè)人。To make a monkey out of somebody 這個(gè)俗語(yǔ)的意思是：把某人弄得好像一個(gè)傻瓜一樣。下面我們來(lái)舉一個(gè)例子：

例句-3: "My friend Pete made a monkey out of me the other day. He told me the party Saturday night was formal, so I wore a suit and tie. But everybody else there was wearing a tee-shirt and blue jeans. It sure made me feel like a fool."

這個(gè)人說(shuō)："我的朋友皮特那天真把我弄得像個(gè)傻瓜一樣。他告訴我星期六晚上的聚會(huì)是很正式的，所以我就穿上西裝，戴上領(lǐng)帶?？墒瞧渌硕即﹫@領(lǐng)衫和牛仔庫(kù)。我真感到自己好像是個(gè)傻瓜一樣。"

在一般情況下，人們總是設(shè)法把別人弄得很傻，但是也有人由于自己的行為不當(dāng)而把自己弄得像個(gè)傻瓜蛋一樣。例如，下面這個(gè)人在說(shuō)的這個(gè)孩子就是如此：

例句-4: "Tom made a monkey out of himself by jumping up and down and yelling when his father wouldn't let him go to the movie."

這個(gè)人說(shuō)："湯姆因?yàn)樗职植蛔屗タ措娪熬鸵粋€(gè)勁地上下亂跳，嘴巴里還大聲亂叫，簡(jiǎn)直把自己弄得像個(gè)傻瓜一樣。"
