Dear Jack,
I am sorry to have to write you this letter. Although I told you I could accept your kind invitation to dinner on Saturday, January 4th, I can't make it after all.
I have just been given notice to go on a business trip. Though I tried very hard to postpone the trip until after the dinner, I failed at last.
It was nice of you to invite me and I regret to miss a delightful evening with you. I am sure you will understand and excuse me for the last-minute change in plans.
Yours faithfully,
Li Ming
