5.2 Pollution 環(huán)境污染

M: Well, no one could survive without water, but you see pollution has been making more and more water unable for drinking.

W: Yeah. Water pollution has for a long time been a major concern among the environmental issues.

M: But what are the sources of water pollution?

W: They could generally be divided into two categories: direct and indirect contaminant sources.

M: Well, direct ones are the pollution directly from factories, refineries waste treatment plants etc., aren’t they?

W: Yeah. They are emitted directly into urban water supplies.

M: But what about the indirect ones?

W: Indirect sources include contaminants that enter the water supply from soils or groundwater systems and from the atmosphere via rainwater.

M: I see. For the sake of us all, we should be an active participator in the prevention of it.

W: Sure. It's an issue asking for everyone's participation.

M：如果沒(méi)有水誰(shuí)也活不了，但是你看，污染正使越來(lái)越多的水沒(méi)辦法供人飲用。

W：是啊，長(zhǎng)期以來(lái)水污染一直都是環(huán)境問(wèn)題中備受關(guān)注的。

M：但是都有哪些污染源呢？

W：可以分為兩大類，即直接污染和間接污染。

M：嗯，直接污染是指工廠、冶煉廠、廢水處理廠等地方直接排出來(lái)的廢物，是吧？

W：對(duì)，它們不經(jīng)處理就直接排到城市居民的飲用水源里了。

M：那間接污染是什么呢？

W：間接污染是從泥土、地下水系統(tǒng)以及通過(guò)雨水從大氣中進(jìn)入水源的有害物。

M：我知道了，為了我們自身的利益，我們大家都應(yīng)該積極參與到防止污染的活動(dòng)中去。

W：就是，這是個(gè)人人都應(yīng)該參與的事情。
