［譯］人生應該樹立目標，否則你的精力會白白浪費。

［注解］出自拉丁語。沒有吃過苦，哪知甜滋味。
［譯］吃過苦頭，才配享受。
He is unworthy to live who lives only for himself.
［譯］為己而生，生而可恥。
He laughs best who laughs last.
［注解］此諺語對事情尚未成功就過早高興的人是告誡；對遭受挫折就感到沮喪無望的人是鼓勵。同義諺語還有：“Better the last smile, than first laughter.”開頭大笑不如最后的微笑。
