［注解］指要當心送上門來令人眼饞的東西，可能其中有詐。比喻餌中必有詐，笑里藏刀。

The best and wisest laws are mere words unless they are upheld.
［注解］語出美國作家N. Hawthorne（霍桑）。uphold支持，維持。
［譯］最好、最圣明的法律，如不加以維護，也只等于一紙空文。
The best fish swim near the bottom.
［注解］意指有價值的東西不能輕易得到。
［譯］好魚居水深。
The cat shut its eyes while it steals cream.
［注解］貓偷吃乳酪時總是閉著眼睛。
［譯］掩耳盜鈴。

［注解］linstock古時放炮用的火繩桿。
［譯］安分守己。
The farthest way about is the nearest way home.
［注解］工作和學習如圖省時省事走捷徑反而會誤事，倒不如遵循正常的程序，捷徑不一定省時省事。
