狄蘭·托瑪斯（Dilan Thomas，1914-1953），英國二十世紀(jì)上半葉的重要詩人之一。生于威爾士。1934年，他發(fā)表《詩十八首》，詩中奇特、強烈而晦澀的意象引起人們的注意。盡管他的詩朦朧晦澀，但其浪漫而樂觀的氣質(zhì)及不同凡響的修辭風(fēng)格使他獲得了大批追隨者，被認(rèn)為影響了當(dāng)時反古典主義傾向的“新神啟運動”。他詩歌的主題常表現(xiàn)生與死的循環(huán)，個體生命與其它生命、與前代生命的連接等。另一些詩作帶有懷舊的浪漫情感，意象自然簡潔，觀察細(xì)膩而表達(dá)生動，具有濃厚的抒情性。

白晝告終時老人該燃燒、該狂喊；

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

該怒斥、怒斥那光明的逐漸消歇。

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

聰明人臨終時雖知黑暗理不缺，

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

由于他們的話語沒迸出閃電，

Because their words had forked no lightning they

最后一浪過，善良人——喊叫說自己的事業(yè)

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
