Emily Bronte
愛密莉·勃朗特（Emily Bronte，1818-1848），英國十九世紀(jì)著名的勃朗特三姐妹之一。一生都在家鄉(xiāng)約克郡的曠野山鄉(xiāng)度過?；臎龆靶缘拇笞匀粚?duì)她的性格和創(chuàng)作產(chǎn)生了重要影響。她寫出過不少感情豐富，寓意深刻，具有一定象征色彩的詩作。它們表現(xiàn)愛情，探討人生，思考死亡，在風(fēng)格和氣質(zhì)上與她的小說《呼嘯山莊》相呼應(yīng)。強(qiáng)烈的感情沖撞，精神與心靈的震蕩，形成了她的詩歌和小說的共同氣質(zhì)。愛密莉的作品在當(dāng)時(shí)并不被人注意，直至20世紀(jì)中葉她的詩名才被真正確立。

Ah! why, because the dazzling sun
把大地喚回到歡樂之中，
Restored our earth to joy

Thrilled through and proved us one.

Why did the morning dawn to break
如此偉大、純粹的魔法？
So great, so pure a spell,

And scorch with fire the tranquil cheek

Where your cool radiance fell?
血紅的白日升起，它兇猛的光束
Blood-red he rose, and arrow-straight

His fierce beams struck my brow:

The soul of Nature sprang elate,

But mine sank sad and low!

It would not do—the pillow glowed

And glowed both roof and floor,
樹林里多少只小鳥在高聲歌唱，
And birds sang loudly in the wood,
清風(fēng)正在把門窗猛搖。
And fresh winds shook the door.
窗簾飄舞，夢(mèng)中醒來的蒼蠅
The curtains waved, the wakened flies
滿屋子飛來飛去，嗡嗡叫，
Were murmuring round my room,
怎么也飛不出去，我只好起身
Imprisoned there, till I should rise

And give them leave to roam.
啊，星星，美夢(mèng)，安寧的良夜！
O Stars and Dreams and Gentle Night;

O Night and Stars return!

And hide me from the hostile light
它只是在燃燒，毫不溫馨——
That does not warm, but burn—
它把受苦人的血液統(tǒng)統(tǒng)耗干；
That drains the blood of suffering men;
它喝盡淚水以代替露滴：
Drinks tears, instead of dew:
讓我在它致人以盲的統(tǒng)治下睡眠，
Let me sleep through his blinding reign,
我只愿同你們醒在一起。
And only wake with you!
